Even amongst all the confusion and inner turmoil, the prospect of a free meal strikes home.
"...You know I think I'd like that."
She manages a weak smile
"Just be warned Matsu-sama, I uhh, can be an expensive person to treat to food."

"Perfect!" Hide picked her drink back up and took a sip, seemingly happy to have at least calmed the ronin down. "I'll give you my comm info. I really look forward to meeting this friend of yours. And introducing you to the wife."
"Yeah, let me....I think I left my communicator in my other swimwear. I got a good memory though, especially when food is involved."Matsu Hide wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 8:21 am

"Glad you enjoyed it." He'd always wondered why the colaboration hadn't happened on New Kalani. "And glad I got to see a member of Usagi drop perform too. "Thank you, Hotaru-samaa! I really enjoyed it!! Getting to sing with Yakumo-samaaa as well. So much fun."
The fresh beer was sampled, Hinata not really noticing any different but he always assumed others knew better on such things.
"Naz-kun said something about a private performance for the Lord Magistrate on New Bikini . . . him, Yakumo-samaaaa and a Yoritomo Shrimp-sannnnn? At least not as far as his palyer could recall.
The rare chuckle was a small treasure she'd keep to herself as a precious memory, as she imagined she wouldn't be able to hear it that often.Kuni Koyuki wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 1:00 am"Yes," she chuckles, brief as it is. An almost strange thing to hear from her. As if she wasn't quite sure how to accomplish the right sound with it the tone of it shifts from the start to finish. Brushing along the glass with her thumb once before returning to turning the thing in her hand. "It is usually threats that we seek out. Subtle changes in a friend or lover that might suggest they are not who they once were. Perhaps the subtle changes in the surroundings to know you are being crept upon. Threats.. everything holds a level of threat. But.."
"Yes," she says, "I do like spotting out the subtle curiosities in people myself. I admit. Understanding people is.. I like to have that which others do not about another. To be more, I think," she twists her lip, shaking her head. No, that wasn't quite right, "To understand more about a person than anyone else ever has, or ever will."
Touch of a smile on her lip, Koyuki nods to accept that challenge as it was displayed. Sitting up more than she had she takes the opportunity to steal another sip from her glass. An action that was not inspired by her thirst, nor her need to gauge the woman like she'd intended to allow it to seem. No, simply she considers all the ways she might word what she knows best. Something that was perhaps a touch more difficult than the other prospect might have been.Susumu Yakumo wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 3:06 pmThe rare chuckle was a small treasure she'd keep to herself as a precious memory, as she imagined she wouldn't be able to hear it that often.
"That is an interesting way to look at it... so you'd say that in your line of duty, you're able to learn more about people than most do? If so, I'm curious what you would see about me, from our brief encounters, Kuni-san."
Yes. Brief encounters. So brief. So public. And not scandalous. Perish the thought.
Yakumo was rarely stunned, but for a moment she sat and soaked in exactly that feeling, because few had given such a good read of her in the past. Eventually she managed to recover and hide some of it behind her raised glass.Kuni Koyuki wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 3:33 pmTouch of a smile on her lip, Koyuki nods to accept that challenge as it was displayed. "First I would look at your eyes," she says, as if walking Yakumo through her minds eye. "You can tell almost everything you need to know about a person through their eyes. What are they paying attention to? You have paid attention to me from the moment we started talking, but you also paid attention to your cohort when he entered," she says with just a touch of a smirk. "You are interested in what I have to say but do not limit yourself to just what is in front of you. I would say this shows that you wish to experience as much of life as you can in what time you have, fleeting as it is for all of us."
Knowing the weight of that, Koyuki breathes in deep and settles the slight prick of her nerves on the exhale. Settling back down, forward again, onto her legs just before the knee.
"When you speak of your performance, and you speak of your muse, you confirm the suspicion that this was your drive. Words, emotions, hopes, and dreams, you are clearly a seeker of beauty in life but not of the superficial variety. You're not interested in the common beautiful words of one particular suitor over the other and how masterfully they might speak. You are interested in what is real, and substantial. Much to the point that you look in the places others would not see fit to and place yourself beside them, because you know the pain that often comes with the beauty you seek," she lingers on that thought, brushing the glass with the edge of her thumb lightly, anxiously.
"It is-" she swallows- "an uneasy feeling. To be able to look one so opposite yourself in the eye. Someone who sees as much in life as you do," she says, not daring to look up. For the sake of maintaining propriety, it seems only fitting. Koyuki was rather glad of that particular bit of etiquette.
Whether it was intentional or not, that managed to bring out some pride from Mariko. She ran her fingers through her hair to help air it out from being damp, adopting a proud composure as she spoke. "I've never said I wasn't I wasn't born with my confidence, Hotaru-san. I do come from a long lineage of capable actors, tracing perhaps to Shosuro Yuudai from the 14th Century who was the Emperor's consort for some time and eventually the Family daimyo. Yes, I suppose it's very natural but nothing you can't make reality by just making it so, Hotaru-san. Every history has a start, as they say."Hotaru Sakura wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 5:07 amSakura nodded. "I haven't heard about that style, but now I'm at least partially intrigued." She titled her head in curiosity. "Practice? Really? Bayushi-sama's confidence seems so...natural. Like she was born with it."
Sakura opened her mouth in awe. "Sugoi!" Wow! "I don't even know my grandparents. Bayushi-sama is so cool!" She was practically vibrating in wonder. "Still, Bayushi-sama must have worked hard to get to where she is now!"Bayushi Mariko wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 4:20 pm

"My... I'd hate to be some soul-sucking cultist or the like in your presence, if that is how well you read people. My cover would be blown right away." It was clearly a joke, judging by her laugh, though some anti-Spider folks would probably take that as a joke in poor taste because all Spiders were secretly baby-eating oni-worshippers! Or something... she had no idea what they actually thought most of the time except for hating them.
"I don't think anyone has gotten such a good, and accurate assessement of me in such a short time. You must do your sensei proud."
"You...didn't?" Mariko said with a blink of surprise on that rather awkward note. Who didn't know their grandparents? What kind of strange lineage inconsistencies did the Firefly have? Did they just get vented in space once in a while?Hotaru Sakura wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 5:12 pmSakura opened her mouth in awe. "Sugoi!" Wow! "I don't even know my grandparents. She was quick to answer the next statement, maybe a touch defensively. "Of course, I did! Just because my father was a famous actor, I still had to work to accumulate my own fame. Good roles aren't just handed to me based on prestige alone!"

Looking up, she meets Yakumo's gaze, usually rather uncomfortable with the demands to do as such in polite company, at least between those who were relatively equal, but right now she was quite thankful for it. "Lucky for you in this moment that you are spending time with a woman as skilled as I am for detecting such nasty things. It will have to add to your credibility. Not that you should need it," she offers, toying with her glass absently in her hand. Was certainly truer than most here would ever possibly realize, and that was for the best for everyone involved.
Warmth of expression, not quite a smile but more than just neutral. It was alike a shift in her presence more than anything when Yakumo spoke, and only grew more when she laughed. "Goodness, I hope not. As if it wasn't bad enough with all these other ridiculous rumors - if half of them were true, I still wouldn't have time to do my duty to my clan, nor prepare for a concert!" she said with a laugh and a shake of her head, clearly both amused and exasperated by the gossip circling her. "Though if even dumber rumors like that does pop up, I suppose I do know a Kuni now who could attest to them being absolute rubbish rubbish."
A line like that had probably helped fool plenty of rich and famous people into obvious traps, but Yakumo held no such suspicions against Koyuki. "Oh a mystery? Sure!"Kuni Koyuki wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 10:43 pmWarmth of expression, not quite a smile but more than just neutral. "You do. I am.. quite excellent at dispensing with rubbish. A life lived simply getting straight to the point," she says, the briefest curl of her lip that wasn't quite a smile but could have been with just a little extra oomph and much fewer eyes upon her. "Care to come with me so I might show you a mystery, Susumu-sama?" she says, and glances toward the building where her own stuff was certainly held.
Koyuki half-starts to give her a look, another earnest smirk rising before she locks it down with the smile just sitting high in her cheeks. Shaking her head slightly, "I am afraid you will just have to uncover the mystery yourself, and follow me, Susumu-sama. Get your things and meet me outside, I will wait for you," she says, with some cool certainty that she would manage to get out ahead of Yakumo if she made an effort of it.Susumu Yakumo wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 11:05 pmA line like that had probably helped fool plenty of rich and famous people into obvious traps, but Yakumo held no such suspicions against Koyuki. Her drink wasn't quite finished, but that didn't matter to her that much as she placed it aside on the table, easily sliding her legs off the side of the lounger. "What kind of mystery is it?"
"Haha! No problem." Hide smiled wide before she shot Yurei a wink. "Yeah, good food is a great motivator."
"Oh a secret. Ok!"
