More Heist Questions! (After rereading the heist rules, and rereading gm questions to try to avoid burning gm bandwidth on things already answered.)

Forged Identification papers: You have to call at least one raise to obtain forged id papers. Am I correct in assuming that if you call two raises on forged ID papers, that the papers are 'better' in a heist, and not just they took a really nice picture of me for the photo?

Preparation: Are there penalties for failing to prepare, other than not getting the free raise?

How do free raises from work with the false/stolen papers route? The rules just say present papers going in and going out for inspection. Preperation rules say you get free raises for entering/exiting.

Locating a terminal: Rules say raises on this roll help with exiting, wanted to check how this worked also with the false/stolen papers route.

If you call a raise on Locating a terminal, and fail the roll, does this mean that you both cannot gather info AND take maximum suspicion on leaving as you spent a bunch of time flubbing about for a terminal?

Sorry for the thread bump, asked a couple days ago, and I didn't want to bother the gms during daychange or Tassu's eye doctor appointment, but some answers here would really help me start my Day 2. Just wanted to make sure it didn't get lost in the flood of player inquiries that come with running such a huge game with this many moving pieces.

Nope! Mind you, if you are doing Blackmail and stalking someone - there you have to roll Stealth which could have issues if you fail the roll.

The guards check your papers. They roll against a set TN. The better the fake papers (the more Raises you have there), the better.

Yes, but the Raises don't carry over. The Raises from preparation present e.g. you figuring when a lazy gal has a shift, so they won't check your papers too closely. So yes you can use Raises on your way out. You get to chose where you drop your Free Raises, but putting any into 'getting in' won't make 'getting out' easier.

Raises called here give Free Raises to Hacking Roll as you find a machine that is not protected as well. Since that roll is 'not easy' and 'important for income' you are encouraged to get Free Raises for it. Flubbering this roll has no other adverse effects (regardless of Raises) than you having to make your escape.

While the thugs and mobsters hold few loyalties, they are keenly aware of the current political situation and thus Crane, Mantis and Spider samurai have a higher risk of ending up being mugged or worse should the underworld informants find a reason to doubt their motives.

For the above, does a free raise count as a called raise?

Nope, Core does not consider Free Raises 'Called'. (See also limits on Calling Raises).

Basically you'd need a Clan you want to spy on (for the most part, this is just a fluff thing). Then I come with a holding or two they have on the world you can send your ronin to.

Two questions about faction perks/resources.

1. Can non-members of a given clan make use of a clan embassy's special location perks, if they're invited by a clan member? E.g. if I wanted to help someone else who needs to make a Commerce or Lore: Underworld check, could I let them hang out with me in the Mantis embassy for a time slot and draw on Mantis resources for that next-day Free Raise?

2. Writs of travel in the clan resource pool--what do they signify exactly? I assumed that these were permission to travel to the world in question and hang out over there, without any change in status if given to a ronin--you're still clan-less, but in a different (hopefully nicer/less stabby) place. On the other hand, I see some Clan characters mentioning Clan fealty along with travel writs. Is the offer of getting to join a Clan implied in the writs of travel, or is it a separate goodie that some clans have available and others don't?

( I also have a low-priority lore question in my PF, one that I didn't think anyone besides me would need answered.)
