[D4 LE] Information Event: Eyes wide shut - Roleplay thread

Kazumi danced around the party with the jacket and shorts with mesh thigh high leggings their distinct and reflective mirror mask catching some light here and there making them stand out.

The Soshi, while being low Status, seemed to be entirely comfortable and thriving in the environment.

[Susumu Yakumo]

"Oh, I am sure you can find actual secrets, if you care to look for them - and if you are willing to pay the cost." Mineichi murmured. "I suppose the real secret is, who knows what?" The masquerades were set up just for that purpose. To both enjoy refreshments in an intimate setting and to try to figure out who knew what. The hosts would try to collect tidbits of information, trying to see if they could distill something of value out of all the gossip. In many ways the high society played games of its own under veneer of polite chatter, games whose results would later play out in the city. "Oh, I trust that you are magnificent." Yakumo could see Mineichi tilt his head as his eyes traced her outline. "I did saw you at the beach the other day." Sadly, her team had not won, but the lord magistrate had gotten more than an eyeful. "But, first impressions can be deceptive, yes?" he added, curling his fingers into a paw as he tilted his head to the side. "When we gaze the unknown, we often see what we would like to see." There was a brief pause, Mineichi liking his lips behind his mask. "Someone like me would be more curious to know what lays beneath the mask. I trust that Susumu-kashu is not strictly what the Imperials would have us believe, yes?"

"You do sound like someone who is fond of ferreting out secrets," she giggled behind a raised hand, averting her eyes coyly for a moment. "But you're right... first impressions are often deceptive."

Draining the remains of her glass, Yakumo placed it away on a shelf of the alcove. Someone working here would pick it up eventually, once there were no longer two guests occupying the aforementioned alcove. Unlike Mineichi, should couldn't easily mimic a peacock's pageantry-movements, but she did lift her chin slightly to fit the haughtiness that belonged to such a bold bird.

"Would you believe it was the first game of Oshidama I had played? At least outside of a child's attempt at playing ball-games." Without elaborating further, Yakumo would let the Lord Magistrate decide for himself if he believed that or not, even if it was the truth. "The public image of Kumohime is a well-crafted one, that much I can say," she smirked as she obliged his curiosity, "but you know what they say; in every lie there is always some truth."

[Asahina Hinata]

He offered Hinata his arm to strut through the maze in search of refreshment. Cold tea or sake wouldn't be bad.

A smirk settled on his lips, "Isn't that the exciting part? No one knows if behind innocent cat mask is a dangerous scorpion, or behind predatory lion mask could be a tame dragon." He chuckled, sounding really cheerful. "In a way, you can do whatever you want without having to wear your clan's mask, don't you think?"

So this was why the Embassy hadn't let him have a Crane mask. They'd probably told him exactly that but he'd breathed since then so had forgotten it.

"So clever of them, but all the questions they ask. It's like a party and an interview at the same time."

[Bayushi Mineichi]

"But I do assume that the peacock is as sincere as she is fetching." Tilting his head, much like cat spying a bird might do, Mineichi offered her another smile, Yakumo only able to see the glimmer in his eyes. "Wreath your lies in truths they say here. And then, bury your truths beneath the roses." He stepped closer again, leaving perhaps foot and a half between the two. "Peacock is a regal sight, but not much of a songbird. What sort of a bird the real songbird is?" Another question hung in the air, his words as layered as before.

As Mineichi stepped closer, the songstress did not shirk away, but maintained her posture - confident and a touch proud. "That is quite the mystery, isn't it? Maybe one that seems harmless?" she teased with a smirk on her dark lips. "Did you know that birds, and other animals masquerade too, just like we are? Predators masquerade as prey to lure them in, prey masquerade as something dangerous..."

She breathed in deeply as she moved forward, less than half a foot but also interrupting him from proceeding further unless he absolutely wanted to erase the space between them. "In our case, wouldn't that completely turn the tables for us, hm?" A brief glint of white teeth could be seen as she smiled.

[Akodo Reki]

Disappearing into the crowd, Reki moves to get a better view of the party. She very much disliked this, but the Lioness kept those feelings well concealed. From behind her pony half-mask, copper colored eyes tried to take in all the sights and sounds.

[Utaku Yesugen]

Cherry Ghost-chan flitted about, smiling teasingly...which wasn't that much obvious. Still, there was some grace and some coyness in her movements, belying some experience.

Sakura - for it was she under the MYSTERY GETUP - turned towards the cat, perfume hazing around her heavily. "Ah, Neko-chan." She bowed deeply. "A friend, and a silly name." She titled her head. "What inspired you?"

Nishida chuckled, he liked the persona Kitsune had, pretending to be innocent and unknowledgeable was a good strategy to trap gullible courtiers.
He just hoped it was a persona.

It seemed that Mineichi was still discussing his line of work, even if his words were wrapped in additional layers. "Seems harmless, possibly? Appearing harmless is often wanted, I wager. Whether the songbird is actually harmless, I doubt. One does not manage Imperial sponsorship without some edge." he added with a grin, even if his mask hid it. "Seppun and Otomo would play timid songbird like a fiddle, no?" Mineichi presented his words more as an observation rather than praise, leaving it to Yakumo to pick up what he actually meant. "No, I would not think songbird merely a prey."

"That would turn more than just the tables." he quipped in return. "For who would expect to see a bird chasing a cat?" Evidently Mineichi had never seen otori of Asakaze. As filthy as World of Dreams was, the city was oddly sterile, with only few beasts managing to eke out a living among humans. "Maybe songbird is a bird of prey, hiding her claws beneath the shimmering feathers?" he asked playfully, shifting a little to her left, his movements relaxed - it seemed that the Lord of Cats considered the high society his territory. "Or perhaps she wishes others to believe this? Who knows?" The way he lingered around her made his curiosity rather evident.

[Bayushi Senshuken]

Setsu is not a good dancer either, but tonight, it seems like he's the avatar of mambo behind that mask blessed by Sakkaku spirits. He replies, taking the rose from his mouth into his hand, "It masks my face, but not my admiration." then, after the second swirl, he offers the rose to such beautiful princess of the realm, "Flame red like these petals?"

He adds with a bow, "Such a painful sting, but a rather pleasant sensation."

The Bayushi takes the rose to her hands and brings it close to her heart before bowing herself. "Flame red like the mask I dream you will be wearing one day." She answers and smirks.

Raising from her bow, she takes a step closer to whisper to the man's ear once again. "Pleasure can be found in pain, indeed, but, please, don't hurt me, my charming stranger, for I am as fragile as a newly blossomed bud when you touch me."

Kazumi stepped up next to her a drink in hand and black eyes looking out to the crowd as they spoke before shifting to Reki.

The Bayushi takes the rose to her hands and brings it close to her heart before bowing herself. "Flame red like the mask I dream you will be wearing one day." She answers and smirks.

Raising from her bow, she takes a step closer to whisper to the man's ear once again. "Pleasure can be found in pain, indeed, but, please, don't hurt me, my charming stranger, for I am as fragile as a newly blossomed bud when you touch me."

Her smart trap of colors makes a vein pop up in his forehead as he has to think fasto to give a satisfactory, and charming, counter-argument. He returns from the bow together with the princess in front of him to reply, “I would not dare hurt a flower, even as it pierces me back, and if I pluck it from the ground it came, it is only to root it at more prosperous and fertile grounds. Under a blue sky.”

Always alert, Rei spotted the young woman, even while in the middle of conversation. His gaze flickered over, then focused, sharpened. Eyes flickered up and down, both admiring and noting details. A slight widening of his eyes, recognition dawning.

He did not approach. But Rei did briefly turn to her, raising his glass with a smile in a sort of salute. And then he bowed, low and respectful.

Rising, casting one last glance and smile, he turned back to his conversation partner.

Tenma approached the woman, a glass in each hand, "Welcome, welcome. Care for a champagne, plum wine?"

Giving a delicate nod, she said "Champagne if you please. And thank you." She accepted the glass, hoping that no Scorpion would be so ridiculous as to poison something at such a public event.

Sensing another's eyes on her, she saw Usagi-san look her up and down. With a smile curving under her mask, she gave him a wink back and then turned back to the Bayushi.

"And how you are enjoying yourself this evening?"
