Fancy Pants Drinks (Day 10 Mid Evening, Jun's Suite)

[Yoritomo Seika]

Seika has her guard down, because finishing her glass of rocket fuel is still a rather distracting undertaking. In consequence, she giggles and only just avoids snorting space moonshine up her nose when Jun drops the casual mention of room service.

"Well... I already like other things that make some people really question my taste. So I guess this is one more for the list, right?" She smiles slyly at him.

It truly isn't a lie for Jun's sake. Seika is, after all, a hopelessly terrible liar. No, there actually is something about the funky, oily-tasting homebrew that she finds weirdly appealing, even as it does strange things to the back of her throat.

"Hang in there, Sakura-san. Maybe, uh, slow down?" That really is an alarming face Sakura is making...

[Hotaru Sakura]

Sakura's face settled down.

It was also very, very red.

"No problem minnasama, I'm a Firefly, I can take this!"

She felt a shiver run through her body.

"Though I might get a glass of water first..."

[Asahina Hinata]

Hinata dialled up a page on his densai ready anyway.

"Oh, I have something if you need it. Ki-kun sometimes drinks far too much cherry sake and he makes such pitiful faces the next morning, so I learnt a prayer to the Earth kami to help him."

[Hotaru Tsuyo]

Tsuyo watches with a bit of concern and amusement, but nods at Jun's assessment. "There's always about a half dozen ships in a cluster that've got a brewin' section, and every brewer's got their own secrets, but it's all meant to be strong enough to use as fuel in a pinch. Nobody's died of the stuff in ages, though I think there were a few mistakes in the early days of learnin' to brew on a ship."

She tosses the rest of her glass back, mostly so it can be set down and free that hand for a bun. "Water in between's a good idea, even for us as grew up on the stuff. No harm in buildin' a tolerance, Sakura-san." She doesn't mention that it does a number on your taste buds. Given the rations that are common on Firefly ships, that's really kind of a side benefit.

[Hotaru Jun]

Some secrets were best left to the depths of space after all. Still a drink and a half in Jun picked up a bun, wasn;t a bad idea to eat a bit even if he wasn't going to have any water, at least not yet. "Heard some of those stories." Jun replied with a nod towards Tsuyo. "Also heard about it being used as a weapon in a pinch in a time or two."

"That's a useful trick though Asahina-sama. Might have a few people here asking for a favor before the end of the evening."

[Yoritomo Seika]

"Grew..." Seika clears her throat. "Uh, grew up on the stuff? Like... from how old are we talking, though?" She looks from Tsuyo to Jun and back again, curious and perhaps slightly alarmed.

Now that she's past the first glass, Seika's competitive streak is stirring. If the Firefly--well, the born-Firefly, and especially Jun--aren't switching to water yet, then neither is she. This could be problematic for Future Seika, but it doesn't occur to Now Seika to worry about that poor sucker.

Future Seika is not completely out of luck, however; those buns do smell pretty good, and if the others are digging in too, then it's not a concession to take one.

[Hotaru Tsuyo]

"Not for babies, if that's your worry," Tsuyo laughs. "but a drop in some tea when sickly helps with sleepin.' Add some of that fire-paste from Shinjo's Grace to clear your head, and it's wholesome enough for most anyone."

She nods at Jun. "I mean, it'll burn, so I could see usin' it to surprise someone you're fightin'. " There's a pause as she munches and limps over to find a seat. "Reasonably decent paint thinner too."

[Hotaru Jun]

Jun glanced at Tsuyo. "True enough, but my dad did say he rubbed it on my gums when i was teething." Probably not a wise idea by any means. "I don't know if that's too common though." He looked thoughtful for a mmoment. "One of my crewmates mixes it with molasses and uses it as cough syrup too. Or at least that's his claim."

Jun finished his second glass and went to pour another. He certianly wasn't watching what Seika was drinking, not at all. Or so he told himself. "i'm prety sure it makes for more coughs then it stops though."

[Asahina Hinata]

Hinata carefully closed the densai down with the Jurojin's Balm prayer loaded and then finally noticed there was food . . . Those in the room would probably swear he either warped across the room or teleported . . . to stare at the table.

"Oh those smell good, what are they?"

[Hotaru Tsuyo]

Tsuyo looks up and calls over, "filled buns...chicken, veggie, shrimp--white, green, pink." She holds up her barely tinted pink one. "pretty decent." Particularly when you can't taste all that much.

[Asahina Hinata]

"Oh wow."

He's a guest. He understands politeness and proper courtesy . . . barely, so he reins in his initial selection and just . . . takes one of each.

[Ide Yamako]

"I've been drinking it for years." Jun replied with a bit of amusement in his tone. "Tsuyo-san too." He motioned in the direction of the artist. Whether or not that would mean it was safe or not was another story altogether though.

He observed Sakura for a few moments, she'd be fine.... probably. "It just takes some getting used to."

"Got plenty of other stuff too though." He offered with a motion towards the table and it's various bottles. "Which might be easier on the palate, and on your head in the morning."

Yamako has a moment of intense concern around the stories but chalks this up to different cultures and hides the yelling in the back of her head. "Ahh, well, then it should be all right. But yes, water does help. And snacks." She walks over behind Asahina-san and snags a bun after he grabs a selection, biting into it. "Mmmm..." She chews it, savoring and sampling the tastes. "I swear this world has such amazing food."

[Yoritomo Seika]

Seika munches her bun. "Oh, well, teething, that's whatever. I'm pretty sure my grandmama did that to both her kids. Well... with regular shochu, anyway." She waves the hand holding her empty rocket fuel glass, expansively. "Probably me too, when Mum wasn't looking. And I turned out fine, right?"

A little less tall than I'd pick, but otherwise...

[Hotaru Jun]

"Right." Jun agreed with a nod as he finished his bun. It had been pretty good.

"I do think that's the first time I've heard someone call their mom, Mum though." He added after a moment. "So I'm not too sure after all."

[Asahina Hinata]

Hinata had been occupied trying all the foods . . . the Usagi Drop! Nutritional Advisor was probably sneezing a lot right now. He nodded enthusiastically when Yamako commented on the food quality on the World of Dreams, but finished eating before replying.

"Have you tried Kochako Fried Chicken, Ide-samaaaaa?? So much good food here but be a bit careful of the Nightshade sauce."

[Ide Yamako]

Hinata had been occupied trying all the foods . . . the Usagi Drop! Nutritional Advisor was probably sneezing a lot right now. He nodded enthusiastically when Yamako commented on the food quality on the World of Dreams, but finished eating before replying.

"Have you tried Kochako Fried Chicken, Ide-samaaaaa?? So much good food here but be a bit careful of the Nightshade sauce."

She bobbed her head excitedly, the Crane’s mood slightly infectious. “Yes! But I was lucky enough to have a local Soshi warn me about the nightshade sauce. The other sauces were very delicious though.”

[Hotaru Jun]

"Nightshade sauce?" Jun asked lookign between the two and raising an eyebrow.

Somethign about the way they were talking about it intrigued him.

[Asahina Hinata]

"The chicken is sooo good there and . . . "

Then Jun heard them discussing the sauce of 'death'.

"Oh yes Hotaru-samaaaaa!!! Nightshade Sauce at Kochako Fried Chicken. It's really hot. I had . . . a bit too much my first time and it . . . it was really something."

[Hotaru Jun]

"Huh." Just nodded at that then looked towards Tsuyo. "You think that would go well with Rocket Fuel, Tsuyo-san?"

[Hotaru Tsuyo]

Tsuyo watches the back and forth, then nods at Jun's question. "I mean, it's hot enough to taste after the fuel's anesthetized your tongue. I liked it fine. Would work well on ships to spice up rations."

"If you've got space in your weight allowance, definitely worth taking some with if they'd sell you a bottle."
