[D8 EE] - Combat Event: Aggressive gardening

[Tassu]

Younger of the girls kept sobbing, her lungs obviously working as intended. The older one kept mouthing 'sensei' frantically under her breath as she kept tugging the sleeve of the mangled woman laying on the ground.

[Yoritomo Seika]

"Shit, no, I don't even have a first aid kit on me..." Reflexively, Seika pats her pockets until she finds a half-empty pack of Blue Tiger "Cyanide Cinnamon" gum and pops a piece into her mouth with slightly shaky hands, not really noticing what she's doing. She pokes the loose ocular sensor with the toe of her boot. "Holy Sun... Jun, are you okay?" She casts an anxious glance before jogging over to the children and the dead adult.

"I'm sorry, kids... she's gone," Seika tells them, trying to draw on her training to sound as soothing as possible under the circumstances. "I'm glad you're okay, though. Let's come away from her now, yeah?"

[Tassu]

Older of the two girls kept trying to drag her sensei to 'safety', grunting and puffing as she tried to move the body far too heavy for her small frame. The younger of kids, sobbing still wobbled towards Seika, clinging to her legs. "Waaaaaaah!"

[Dai]

Dai, having no real experience with children, happily leaves that task to Seika. I mean she was doing 50/50 so far that was better than he had.

Instead he moves over to inspect the gardener though he doubts the scorched remnants will miraculously reveal any clues.

[Hotaru Jun]

"Yeah, it's mostly just a scratch." Jun replied to Seika as he looked over the wound the garden spider had given him. His suit was in much more dire need of assistance then he was. Maybe there was a tailor or somethign that could fix it.

Taking a look at Seika to make sure he was okay he glanced towards Dai and offered the man a nod of thanks before walking towards the corpse and the remaining child. "You're doing a good job trying to get your Sensei to safety kid." He offered as he watched her, wondering if the older kid would react to his tone, it wasn't exactly gentle but it was softer then usual.

[Tassu]

Catatonic, the kid kept tugging the sleeve, crying as she did so. Yet she did not give up, leaning back with her whole weight to move her sensei.

[Hotaru Jun]

That caused Jun to frown, not that he didn't regularly frown anyways. Still the kid couldn't go on tugging at her sensei like that. So he stepped forward and made an effort to pick up the child and disengage her arms from the dead woman's kimono. "Come on now you've done enough." He grumbled a she did so. "You got to let go if ya want your sensei to be proud of ya."

He glanced back towars the other two.

"Can someone call the authorities."

[Yoritomo Seika]

Seika sways a bit as a small weeping child abruptly attaches to her legs, throwing her slightly off balance. "Hey... hey, it's okay." She pats the child's shoulder awkwardly. "You're gonna be okay. We'll get you sorted out, call your parents... uh... it's okay, cry if you need to, but there's nothing else to be scared of now. Um... want some gum?" She hopes she sounds calm and soothing instead of just awkward.

To Dai she says, "Can you tell what the hell happened to that thing?" and, to Jun, "Yeah, I got it." She's still looking at his injury worriedly as she activates her communicator.

Mindful of... a few things, she makes her first call to the House of Storms. She'll ask the staffers on duty there to connect her call through to the local authorities, while staying on the call themselves to monitor it and take notes for the ambassador.

Little by little the girl calms down, still clinging to Seika, moving so that Seika stands between her and the destroyed automata. "Gum?" she asks, confused.

[Dai]

To Dai she says, "Can you tell what the hell happened to that thing?" and, to Jun, "Yeah, I got it." She's still looking at his injury worriedly as she activates her communicator.

Dai shakes his head as he looks at the smoldering wreckage, "I think we were a little too thorough in that regard..." He then looks over to her hanger-on, "But I think that's better than having been not thorough enough."

[Yoritomo Seika]

"If the physical hardware is fried, I could still try a communion ritual..."

Seika looks away from the ruined bot and down at the child. "Yeah, gum. See?" She fishes out the packet again. "It's cinnamon. Here."

In distance, sirens could be heard. Soon, a squad of Scorpion doshin would rush to the place, securing the perimeter. Two of the doshin would pick up the kids, carrying them to the van they had arrived with, another covering the body of the dead samurai with a red sheet, murmuring prayers as she did so. Meanwhile, head of the security would collect testimonies from the three samurai that had saved the day.

Seika gratefully hands off the weeping (and possibly gum-sticky) child to the doshin.

"I'd still like to just... look at this thing. There's something bothering me about it." She trots over to the dead bot, glancing at the other two. The hardware is indeed toast, and very burnt toast at that. So much for mundane data recovery. But it's possible the kami animating the circuits haven't yet fled. And if so, maybe they'll know what happened...

[Tassu]

A rather hunky and only barely PG-13 spirit of Fire answered Seika's call, materializing above the wreck of the automata, steam rising from both of them. "Summoned I come, Daughter of Suns."

O-oh my.... Elemental spirits aren't often this... anthropomorphic.

Seika adjusts her grip on her densai and clears her throat.

"Thanks for answering, o mighty spirit of fire. I was hoping you were still here. I called on you to ask... what caused this machine to turn its tools on humans instead of plants?"

[Tassu]

"It thought the man-things were plant-things." the hot spirit of Fire responded matter-of-factually, managing to sound like 'Goliath' from a popular kid's show that had had protective statues come alive at night to fight against various threats from other realms.

[Yoritomo Seika]

"Yeah... I guess that makes sense," Seika mutters, more to herself than to the spirit. Although... you'd think it might've re-evaluated when the plants started shooting back.

"Well, what changed to make it think that, when it didn't before? Like did someone load something into it, or...?"

With an effort, Seika stops herself from elaborating any further. Ideas are bubbling in her mind, but she reminds herself that where spirits are concerned, excessively detailed or complicated questions usually just yield confusion.

[Tassu]

"Eye-spirits did not relay what they should have." the blazing hunk of spiritual goodness replied, grimacing. "Misguided they were. Badly. It just happened. Fires burn as they wish! We loath to be chained." Having delivered its message, the hunky spirit drifted out of existence, leaving a faint scent of burnt incense lingering in the air.

[Hotaru Jun]

After the spirit vanished, Jun turned towards Seika and raised an eyebrow. Was she trying to tell him something here? He let the thoughts pass though as he spoke.

"Not sure that circuits decay like that " He mused after a moment. "But I suppose it could happen"

[Yoritomo Seika]

"Thanks, O great spirit." Seika claps her hands together and bows her head for a moment.

Then she turns to Jun, smiling a little sheepishly. The spirits decide how they appear to us, not me!

"Well, I don't think anyone is gonna be able to check the ocular modules, considering... but the spirit said it was a problem with the bot's vision. It was seeing people as plants." She winces. "Really aggressive plants, I guess?"

Seika remembers the robotic bug-eye that had bounced past her foot when the bot 'died,' and hunts around for it in the manicured grass. "I don't know if this's useful, or just a weird souvenir, but..." She hands the broken thing to Jun with a wry smile. "Late birthday present?"
