[D5 LA] Side Event: Final Fight Tournament (RP)

Sat at one of the tables of the bottom of the rooms, the ones that were now empty of tournament games after the first waves of drops, Kanna was finishing reading the extended rulebook.

Just how many keywords did this game had exactly? Did these two cards have the exact same text but totally different rulings because they entered play from two different zones? Was that 'errata' entirely replacing the effect of that card with an effect that had no resemblance whatsoever?

The rules of this game made less sense than the rules of the Rokugani language. And Rokugani had the excuse of having over three thousands years of legacy to justify its inconsistencies.

"You look like I feel Kitsu-san" Nishdia announced his appearance next to the Lion reporter.

What he was looking for and why he was here was probably a mystery in itself, but apparently he had a deck with him and seemed to be playing here.

"So our paths meet again, are you working on a report on the tournament?"

[Akodo Reki]

Akodo Reki was, much to her eternal shame, a Wartetusbo 24k player. As such there was always going to be some measure of friction between herself and the FF players, still the tournament was something of a big event. The Akodo was curious enough to come see the grand tournament on planet. While clearly the game was inferior to the sublime miniatures based strategy game of WARBO24K, it was still a fun watch. There were in fact some level of tactics involved, and maybe even some grand strategy too.

Also people got pretty excited and that is just infectious, even to a largely stoic Lion.

[Hotaru Jun]

Fantasy flight. Jun was never really certain why these events got so many participants. Maybe it had something to do with how stale the deck archetypes were on firefly ships.

Still after more then a little bit of sake some dust sucker watching was a bit of a must. So he'd made his way over yo the tournament area to see what exactly was going down.

"There's always an audience for articles on strategy games within the Lion. Final Fight's not my specialty however, so I'll just forward my notes about the current tournament to our gaming department. You wouldn't happen to know what the local meta is about by the way? I've tracked down the rule differences with how it's played on Lion's world, but not how exactly it has wrapped the popularity of each type of deck."

"You'll have to pull a scheme on me to see the extent of my mercy, Bayushi-san." Behind his glasses, there was a flash of something behind his eyes. The fan flicked slightly, pushinf some cool air near the pair.

"Don't worry. I will extend that courtesy, and I'd hope you would find enjoyment even in the demise."

"Oh! Oh! Happy times!" She chuckles. "I am not sure if this is a promise or a challenge, but I welcome your words in either case, Susumu sama." She grins broadly, perhaps even happily and continues. "Why don't you give me your best shot and if it is a really good one, you might get the same from me in return!" Kami! Finally a courtier who is fun to talk to! One she can exchange veiled, mild and polite insults and threats with!

[Soshi Kioku]

Once again, the older Soshi woman arrives at the venue of the Fantasy Fight tournament some ten minutes too late to register - although this time she's less frustrated than she was at the Oshidama tournament. While she had a deck, she was hardly a conoisseur of the game, so she was happy to just find a spot to stand in and observe the games.

As might be expected by those who have spent time with her, the tournament does make her emotional now and then. Those who were around in the last two days might also predict a name tied to that emotion - 'Omoi-chan'. She does mutter the name, once or twice... but apparently paying attention to the games was enough of a distraction that she could concentrate on that - or on happy memories - more than on sad ones.

Kuni Sumie

Sumie shifted the strap of her satchel on her shoulder, some faint clanking sound of glassware could be heard, as she pulled out her communicator to check out the latest standings and tied breakers. She got cut from the finals, how?! "Ugh! Even the match-making system in this format is totally borked! The one in New Kalani was so much better. Now, what am I supposed to do with my time?! Realm Expo?! Lame!"

Wouldn't it be risky for me to slither in, setting upon it like a house or cards?"

She lets something like a question hang for a few moments and she takes a step back and away from the privacy of the fan. "But I have been terribly impolite and I haven't asked you who are you playing against in the next round?"

[Susumu Sumiko]

Sumiko watched the playing from afar, not really understanding the appeal of the game but still having people to support. So, she wanted to make sure she was close by in case Yuji or Senshuken did well, as the other Spider in the tournament seemed to lose heavily to multiple players.

I guess Senshuken is doing good?

I guess the advice that I got for go and shogi still applies there though: Try to win.

Yeah, I know, it sounds like a joke, but there's a wisdom to it. When you're a beginner at a game, it's easy to get overwhelmed with the many information coming from all sides and to lose track on the goal. For example, a novice shogi player can become obsessed with defeating the opponent's dragon to the point they miss a game-winning attack on the king."

"Thank you, Bayushi-san. I will put forth my best effort, to see if we face off. If not... perhaps we arrange a match on our own." He saw the way she looked at Sumiko, and he offered a bow to his kin, before returning to Senshuken.

"And thank you, as well, for the advice. I've heard, but never seen, the bearjimbo finisher. Hopefully that continues today."

ahhh fuck kazumi thought as they wandered into the tournament breathing slightly heavily. They had missed the start time and tournament was well underway. The Scorpion shrugged well already here, might as well stick around

Well... that happened.

Still, despite losing rather badly, Rei wasn't really here to win a card game. He was here to meet people. In the absence of another sexy evening party, he was instead hanging out here.

His gaze cast curiously around, looking at the other contestants. Giving a wave to Yuji when he saw him.

Kazumi raised an eyebrow as they saw a familiar and somewhat unexpected face among the competitors. Seeming currently unengaged Kazumi approached the Hare

"I must say I'm a little surprised to see you here Usagi-san. Didn't take you for the Fantasy Fight type."

Rei's head turned at the familiar voice. "Hey, Soshi-san." He said, greeting them with a smile. "How have you been?"

The question made him grin. "I'm not. I won a deck at the arcade yesterday." Another grin. "You probably didn't think of me as an arcade type either." He shrugged. "I guess I'm just trying to broaden my horizons."

[Soshi Kazumi]

Rei's head turned at the familiar voice. "Hey, Soshi-san." He said, greeting them with a smile. "How have you been?"

The question made him grin. "I'm not. I won a deck at the arcade yesterday." Another grin. "You probably didn't think of me as an arcade type either." He shrugged. "I guess I'm just trying to broaden my horizons."

Kazumi chuckled lightly having caught their breath "You'd think growing up on a Scorpion planet I'd learn to not make assumptions based on appearances." They said with good humor

"So arcade night and now Fantasy Fight tournaments. It seems like we'll make a proper nerd out of you yet." Kazumi laughed a little

"How have the days been treating you?"

Kazumi chuckled lightly having caught their breath "You'd think growing up on a Scorpion planet I'd learn to not make assumptions based on appearances." They said with good humor

"So arcade night and now Fantasy Fight tournaments. It seems like we'll make a proper nerd out of you yet." Kazumi laughed a little

"How have the days been treating you?"

"Well... maybe." Rei chuckled. "What else comes as part of being a nerd? I do actually know my way around a computer pretty well, if that makes a difference."

Rei considered the question.

"Things have been going pretty well." He said, smiling. "Winter Court is always exciting. The things that happen..." His gaze flickered back to Kazumi. "And there's the concert tomorrow, of course. That's pretty exciting, eh?"

"Well... maybe." Rei chuckled. "What else comes as part of being a nerd? I do actually know my way around a computer pretty well, if that makes a difference."

Rei considered the question.

Kazumi gave him an amused look "Oh you know maybe watching some Starlight Miko Crusaders, some animated shows, maybe doing a little cosplay." The light laugh was almost a giggle "there are some characters you'd do great as."

"Oh yes, the concert should be amazing. Rehearsal with Susumu-sama and Asahina-sama went smoothly yesterday should be a very good concert with a few surprises." They said with a wink.
