Samurai etiquette in the future

Post by Tassu »

For the most part, the etiquette in the L5R Core Rulebook remains in force.

However, weaponry has changed and radiant firearms present unique dangers on a spaceships or stations. As a rule of thumb, rifles and larger firearms are equivalent to heavy weapons and only carried in the course of duty. Sidearms are the equivalent of katana and will be left upon a weapons rack before heading into court or any other situation where one might expect to hand their katana over for 'polishing.'

One notable difference is that firearms have a very visible safety of some sort that makes it impossible to accidentally fire a shot. As it is much easier to accidentally hit a trigger than to draw a sword, and radiant weapons have the potential to put very inconvenient holes in habitation domes in both space and underwater, everyone not on active guard duty is expected to have the safety engaged while their firearms are on the station, and should generally leave such weapons stored with their belongings. Guards tend to have weapons designed with settings that avoid damage to the environment.

The righteous need not cower before the drumbeat of human progress. Though the song of yesterday fades into the challenge of tomorrow, the Fortunes still watch and judge us. Evil lurks in the datalinks as it lurked in the alleys of yesteryear. But it was never the alleys that were evil.
