"That really is so cooool! We keep getting told that we only get played often in Crane space and Hare space, so I had no idea we had fans in Temples as well."

He made a mental note to pass this new on to his manager, and it was promptly filed by his brain under 'Important but we'll never remember it. so really?'.

"I think that a lot of art makes it to different places we don't expect. It probably just doesn't usually get noticed next to the art promoted by the clans. But the brotherhood isn't part of any clan even if it doesn't seem that way sometimes with some temples."

Hinata had always had a hard time understanding that the Brotherhood Temple were not tied to clans.

" . . . . but the Temples on my homeworld . . . all the monks and nuns there used to be Crane . . . "

[Taiguno]

"Also, take into account that often times temples are supported or maintained by clan or imperial donations. It makes things difficult. The temples on your homeworld are filled with retired Crane, paid for by Crane coin, decorated with Crane art, and built with Crane design, while catering to Crane spiritual needs. Same was true for me on Dark Forge but with the Spider. Neutrality is difficult when you are reliant on certain powers," he shrugs. "But many of us, especially those that were born into the life rather than retired into it, try our best to stay neutral."

Hinata concentrated . . . luckily it's raining so any fires in the brain would be put out quickly.

"Soooo . . . I know you're not a Crane anymore once you retire, but what makes a monk turn neutral? . . . "

[Taiguno]

"The only thing that makes a monk neutral to clan affairs is their personal morality. We are fallible and subject to bias just like any other person. I have a bit of an edge because I did not grow up with a loyalty to a clan, but I also have bias because I was trained and raised by individuals that had been Spider in a previous life. But the particular mission of most monks is to overcome their flaws. In particular, those that follow the ideal of Perfection."

He really tried to picture the monks on Harusame as neutral and it just didn't work. The world was sooooo Crane.

"Oh."

He twirled his umbrella idly why pondering on this . . . or his brain had overloaded and was air venting . . . one of the two.

"So if you were brought up by former Spiders, how did you end up here?"

[Taiguno]

"I requested the opportunity to come here, so I might spend my days promoting Uzuki-no-kami among the artisans and performers on the World of Dreams. It's my hope to someday see a shrine or temple dedicated to her. She is a patron to many Spider creatives, but I would love to see her venerated by those around the empire and the world of dreams has one of the most mixed populations of clans."

"Oh perfection and artisans . . . "

He thought of the Kakita Daimyo and all the pressure she put on performers to excel. She didn't really push Usagi Drop! (she did, Hinata was just too dumb to notice) though.

"I guess I can see that."

[Taiguno]

"But I feel like the Shosuro represent that pursuit better than many. How many times have you seen them act? They sometimes seem to disappear into their roles, almost with a physical transformation. Not to say that they are perfect or that they are playing a perfect role, but that transformation can sometimes seem like perfection," he says.

"Although the Crane certainly seek perfection more than most as well. The original Fortune of Perfection was actually a Crane in life. Uzuki the Immaculate came after but has a stronger tie to the idea due to the Dark Fortune's connections to Shourido."
