D11 - EA - What Had Been Neglected...

[Akodo Reki]

Clad in her finest dress uniform, Akodo Reki arrived at the Unicorn embassy. To say she was nervous was an understatement, but the Lion maintained On.

Stepping into the chief foyer she requested to speak with someone about acquiring travel papers to Shinjo's grace.

The Akodo would be taken to a short-haired woman dressed in a neat suit, who was sitting on one of the sofas enjoying a cup of something that smelled like coffee, but was light brown and had some cream on top of it.

Looking at the Lion approaching, she places her cup on a table by the sofa and gets up, somewhat slowly, to greet her with a 'somewhat' formal bow.

"Good afternoon, Akodo-sama. Moto-san here said you might use some help?". Her tone was businesslike - professional, but somehow suggestive that business would not have been her first choice in life.

Reki returned the bow, her movements stiff and formal. Which given her uniform looked all very official.

Despite all that she hesitated, it was an easy enough request...

"Good afternoon, Iuchi-san. I would like to request a writ to visit Shinjo's Grace." She finally said, "For a personal matter."

After an awkward moment she adds, "Akodo Reki, Gunso, 52nd Akodo Legion, Senior Adjutant in the Operations department, General Staff."

Reki returned the bow, her movements stiff and formal. Which given her uniform looked all very official.

Despite all that she hesitated, it was an easy enough request...

"Honoured to make your acquaintance, Akodo-sama", she says, perfectly polite but still sounding less than enthused.

"Shinjo's Grace, then, un?" The simple, not as perfectly formal term for yes just might have replaced an even more informal 'eh' at the last moment... "Somehow Akodo-sama doesn't strike this one as one who would be interested in wilderness excursions", she remarks with a very slight grin as she takes up her Densai and swipes at it.

She then raises eyes that seem somewhat tired (or maybe bored?) to look at the Lion. "Akodo-sama will understand we will need some more information on these personal matters before the writ can be granted, hai?"

"It was my wife's homeland...actually I think more accurately it was the orbiting star fort...but she had a fondness for the planet as well." The Akodo's facade broke a little there. "I...would like to see it and visit her family if I may."

She straightened and the words came out mechanically, anyone with an inkling at reading a person could see it was some manner of coping mechanism.

"Akodo nee Shinjo Naomi. Nikutai in the Legion level recon company of the 52nd Akodo Legion. Before our marriage she was a scout in the 21st Shinjo Cavalry Legion." Her jaw clenches, "...killed in action in the Crossroads System. All of this can be verified with my clan if you need."

"Your wife's.... . The woman seemed like she was about to make some sort of witty remark, but soon holds back, pressing her lips, as if the meaning of what Reki was saying just dawned on her.

"I see. She was from New Hope Castle, then, ne?, she says, her voice modulating a bit as if she's at least trying to be friendly, although she still sounds a bit deadpan. "Beautiful place.", she adds, not very helpfully.

Some more time as she swipes at her Densai, then she finally looks up at the Akodo again.

"I am sorry to hear about your loss, Akodo-san. We will need copies of the relevant documents, as I'm sure you understand. That... might take a long-ish time to be processed. Although..."

She doesn't quite finish, stopping to look at her Densai, then back at Reki. "She was with ground personnel, then?, she asks, somewhat casually, pondering something. "And Akodo-san too? Or do the Operations staff fly often too?"

I'll ask you for a single Courtier roll to try to get the documentation ready in less time - it looks somewhat clear that she's interested in flying, so I may take that into account depending on your answer and what Reki is willing to do

"Yes, Naomi-chan...Naomi-nikutai commanded a vehicle section in her platoon."

Reki looked off to the side. "We never had a chance to visit her home while she was alive. The troubles with the Mantis interrupted our plans."

She closed her eyes and the stiffness faded to weariness, "I'll be honest Iuchi-san, I loved Shinjo Naomi very much. More than I had ever thought possible. I was close by when she died and duty kept me from doing anything to save her. Even as I knew her death was coming with near certainty."

"I should have requested this a month or more ago but it hurt to think about her. Every good memory screaming 'she is never coming back'. I put off seeking some closure in this, in doing what I could for her family. It is a failure I wish to rectify before duty compels me to return to the battlefield. Anything that can be done to expedite the process I beg you, beg you to help me." She kept it together while speaking.

Recomposing herself she straightened back up, "I have only flown while being ferried to and from command centers. My duties are more over the map table."

Reki is.. much better at courtiering then her player

The Iuchi purses her lips slightly, apparently somewhat frustrated with the Akodo's last words, and it takes her some time to answer. But when she does, she lets out a deep sigh.

"I... feel for your pain, Akodo-sama. I've... lost something I loved, too, possibly forever. I don't mean to say it's the same, of course. Losing someone you love as deeply as that... it must leave an open wound bleeding, really. But... I think I understand some of it, at least".

The Iuchi apparently had some emotions, after all!

"You will get to rectify this, Akodo-sama. Please send me your and Akodo Naomi-shiryo's documents as soon as you can. The word 'shiryo' for 'ancestor spirit' used to refer to Naomi would probably not go unnoticed by Reki. "I will drop some words with some people. If all goes well, you should be good to go before the week's end.

With that said, the compassion in her eyes dims slightly and her lips purse a bit again. "... a pity about you not flying, though. There's this machine in the Blue Moon arcade over in the 3rd Mercantile, you know it? I've been hoping to do a two-player run there..."

Reki let out a relieved sigh, her smile is genuine, "Thank you Iuchi-san. This means a lot to me."

She blinks and then nods as her mind clears from the nervousness that had gripped her since deciding on this course. "The...uh Inu Tai game? I remember it. I...err might have left a high score on it during the open game night."

Reki let out a relieved sigh, her smile is genuine, "Thank you Iuchi-san. This means a lot to me."

Pakpao nods, a small smile-grin on her lips and eyes. "Her family will be happy to see you, Akodo-san. I hope you may find some peace."

She then tilts her head, grin widening on her lips as she nods. "Mhm, that one. Wait... so you are 'Rekincredible' then??'" A nod of approval, excitement barely contained in her face. "Akodo-san... wouldn't be interested in playing again, would you?, she says, her eyes scanning the room for somewhere else to look other than the Lion's face.

The Lioness hadn't expected that, but it did bring a smile, "...I, well I suppose I should have picked a better name. Yes, that was me."

Her face grew more serious, "Iuch-san, I owe you greatly in this matter. If you want someone to play the game with...then it would be my honor to join you." She rubbed her head. "You need only name a time, I have a few more days here...and will need to return with the paperwork you requested. So I should be available."

The Lioness hadn't expected that, but it did bring a smile, "...I, well I suppose I should have picked a better name. Yes, that was me."

"Oh, Akodo-sama, please don't think of this as something you owe me!"

Although it certainly did seem a bit that way...

"I... would be glad to, though. If you can find the time and would be interested, of course!", she adds somewhat hastily. "I know you'll be busy with this paperwork, and I'm sure you have many other things to deal with. But... if you can find some time later today or tomorrow, that would be really grand!, she says before turning her eyes to the ground again, noticing she probably sounded a bit more excited than she should. "Maybe we can get some coffee on the way there. Or bubble tea.", she adds more softly.

"And... when you return with the paperwork, you can look for me directly. I'll be sure to move the process forward as quickly as I can".

"I am afraid today I have prior arrangements," Reki gave the Iuchi a sympathetic look, "And think nothing of it, Naomi-chan...." She shifted uncomfortably at the little breach of etiquette, "Akodo Naomi-san showed me the joy of Unicorn when your people are moved to excitement, I am sure it will be an exhilarating time."

"Perhaps tomorrow? Would you prefer an afternoon or morning?" Reki mentally added, assuming I haven't been drawn into another shoot out...

"Ah... whatever works best for Akodo-sama, then!", she answers a bit too eagerly. "Um... meet at the bubble tea shop in front of the arcade, then?" She gets her comm. "Here... ah... you can text me so we find each other there.

"Of course Iuch-san," Reki exchanges communicator numbers with the Unicorn, "...I'll be by in the morning with the paperwork. After that we can meet at the bubble tea shop."

She tugs on her uniform tunic and straightens up, looking very official. "Until tomorrow then Iuchi-san?"
