Despite the blistering heat, Sumiko made her way to the sanctuary again ready to work on getting the samples prepared again. She was quietly excited - confident that the two of them could complete this work quickly.
Once she found her way to the room she met up with Kioku, smiling and bowing.
"Soshi-sama, good morning. Ready to get this work finished?

"Good morning, Susumu-san", she would answer excitedly herself, already at her bench. "With how much progress we made yesterday? I'm confident!"
The samples were thankfully quiet today as well, their curses apparently all gone. Which certainly made the work more straightforward.
"This is so much more than I could have hoped. We will add not one, but two species to the Sanctuary." A pleased smile. "And with how these spirits had become..."
She looks at Sumiko while working. "If I may ask, Susumu-san. From what you remember at the lab... why do you think these spirits were so angry?"

Done! Now just some background work to get them to grow

Sumiko looked thoughtful as she worked.
"Well, I can think of two reasons. One, they are vengeful due to their deaths - holding a grudge into the afterlife which has stopped them passing over. Or, the influence of gaki-do has warped them, which would mean the explosion caused the connection to gaki-do to rip over before or as the people died, trapping them here. Both are equally viable, and both could be true. They could even be linked."
She looked to Kioku.
"What is really needed is breaking the link to gaki-do, and putting the souls to rest. That's not a small job though, but it is one my clan has done before."

The shugenja nodded, thoughtful.
"Breaking the link to Gaki-do in the whole area... it's no small feat, though. I... wonder how it could be done. Or if. There have been attempts, of course..."
Some more pondering as she works. "Although... we could lift the curse from these samples. Maybe that will have calmed these spirits at least. Maybe with small steps this could be extended..."
