Good Samaritan (D10, MA)

It had taken a few days of contemplation for Dai to finally decide on the course of action for the sample he had recovered. The lure of shiny technology called to him, the idea of how much he could make selling it on the black market also was a siren song, but in the end his soft heart won out.
That said while he was donating to the sanctuary one way or another it would definitely be beneficial if it wasn't hideously cursed first.

The necessary work to bring back (or recreate?) a species would not be an easy one - but as the last day had showed, Kioku was nothing if not determined. As the staff in the reception desk would let Dai know when he arrived, she had been working on a sample herself in a laboratory inside. They would tell him where she could be found, and although they look at the Ronin somewhat cross-eyed, one of them eventually offers to take him there if he would like.

Dai nods. He was willing to wait without interrupting but he suspects that a ronin in the foyer would be more disruptive in the long run.
"Please, thank you."

"Dai-san, what a pleasure to see you", Kioku says when he opens the door to find her inside, working at a bench. "You mentioned you might want some help with the sample you brought back, ne?" At that point she finally takes her eyes off the work she was doing and greets him with a bow and a small smile. "Have you decided on a use for it?", she asks in a friendly voice.
"I believe Susumu-san will join us as well. From what you've said the sample you brought back is similar to one she had. I'm hoping we may deal with those using the same ritual."

He offers a respectful bow, with a little more honest meaning than his usual necessity of survival, "Yes, thank you, Soshi-sama. I recovered samples of the Oborozuki Dragon Newt and it feels right, among so much death, to try and see if you and your colleagues can bring them back."

Back
wearing her usual kimono, Sumiko had made her way to the sanctuary. She was shown through to the room where Dai and Kioku were, smiling and bowing.
"Good afternoon mina-sama, I hope you are well?"

She bows deeply to him. "Your gesture is very much appreciated, Dai-san. I thank you kindly for this, for myself and on behalf of the sanctuary. It... could be some time before we can bring them back - but, if you are not opposed to it, I would like your name, or something referring to you, to be remembered in connection with the Dragon Newt if and when we succeed."

The Soshi then greets the Susumu with a bow and a friendly smile. "Good afternoon, Susumu-san. Well and hopeful, really. Hope you have been well too?"
She then nods at the table. "So... Shall we start working then? It is an Oborozuki Dragon Newt sample you have as well, ne, Susumu-san. Have
you decided what to do with it?" She nods at Dai. "If all goes well... one of the samples should make it possible to bring them back, I believe."
Believe? Hope? It was still to be determined.

Dai seems momentarily taken aback though more out of surprise than anything else, "Ah, I didn't have any expectation of any such honor. But if it Soshi-sama's wish who would I be to deny it...."
There's slight relief at the interruption of such an utterly alien experience as he turns and bows to Sumiko's arrival.

"I'm doing well thank you, quite looking forward to this escape room being prepared later. However, it's time for work now right?"
Sumiko smiled, placing the sample on the table.
"What to do with it I feel is obvious. Unlike the previous samples, the specie could be restored, and it should be as well."

"Susumu-san... Dai-san... you're both too kind.", she says. "As I said, I do think one of the samples shouls be enough to recreate the species. An extra sample
could help expedite the process, but..."
She looks a the sample Sumiko left on the table. "Are you both sure?"
OOC:
Recreating the species with
one sample will need sa cumulative chefk of Lore: Biology against TN 80, with each roll needing a time slot (in a thread or off-screen). Two or more characters can work on the project together, but instead of summing the characters' rolls, this will count as Cooperative roll (i.e. one character rolls; the sum of the others' skills is added to the total). Kioku will participate in the task.
If you
do donate both samples, the total TN to be reached will be 60 instead.
If this cannot be done by the end of D11, either of you may use your End Game goal to recreate the species if you want to (possibly as part of something else involving the Sanctuary).

Dai nods, "I'm sure. As lucrative as the alternatives may be this is the right thing."

She just nods, although her thanks is made clear in her eyes.
"Shall we get to work, then?"
She moves towards the table both samples are. "Two of us can work at the same time. I'll focus on the genetic side of things first..."
She dedicates some time to studying the sample's characteristics on her computer. Once again, though, right when she first touches the sample itself as part of the ritual, a transluscent spirit appears and strikes at her wildly with its claws.
Twisted lizard-like spirit
҈"Y҈҈o҈҈u҈ ҈w҈҈i҈҈l҈҈l҈ ҈d҈҈i҈҈e҈ ҈w҈҈i҈҈t҈҈h҈ ҈u҈҈s҈!҈l҈!҈l҈", the spirit screams in a distorted voice that seems mixed with wild hissing.
She steps aside, avoiding the brunt of the spirit's assault, and starts the ritual...
"All these troubled souls..."
OOC:
(
Oborozuki Newt spirit pushback! | 3k1 ⇒ 6 (TN: ?) => 6 damage taken!
Rolling Lore: Biology for Kioku as I think that's the most effective way to go. Either Dai or Sumiko can roll Lore: Theology then if you think we can finish this in this Time Slot, since we need at least one roll of each type.
Lore:Biology/Intelligence vs Cumulative TN 50. VP spent! Exhausted if below TN 15 | 8k4 ⇒ 34 (TN: 15) (against TN 50 actually! 34/50 done; remaining TN 16
Kioku spent 1 VP)

"I insist" Sumiko said with a smile "while I could do more with the samples, a restoration of the creatures would be enough for me. There are others though that could be restored, just need to resolve the issue within the desolation. For now though..."
Sumiko moved over, although she jumped back when Kioku was attacked
again. She took a few moments to make sure the sample wasn't going to go crazy again before moving over to do the final work to clear the curse.
"are you ok?"

Dai's sidearm had left its holster as the spirit apparated but it vanished again before he could even get a shot off.
Sumiko had spoke the words so it would be foolish to repeat them though the look of concern was present on the ronin as well.

Snip
Kioku's breathing was heavy again, but this time she only had a few scratches on the side of her arm. "I am... hopefully so is this creature's spirit. And whatever else was... tied to it."
She looked at the samples for a moment, then tried touching them.
"...what? Who are you? Are we... gone?"
The Soshi looked at the spirit warmly.
"Not for long, thanks to these kind people", she says in a low voice eyeing Dai and Sumiko.
"Not for long..."
OOC:
Ok, curses gone!
Sumiko, you're donating the sample then, yeah? If you want to help with the recreation, we can get another D10 thread going to do the rolls, or we can do that in the background (tell me in your PF if you'd prefer to do that). Otherwise, D11 it is. Kioku will become unavailable at some time during the Afternoon or Evening, so morning is safer.

"We'll see about easy, I suppose. But it
is the most exciting part", she answers with warm smile and a nod. "I am dedicating some time to the Rainbow Olms, but might as well get started with the Dragon Newt soon as well. Will you be joining me?", she asks looking at Dai and Sumiko.
OOC:
LA works for Kioku. Morning on D11 should be fine too!
Can you create a LA thread, Sumiko?

Dai smiles, "Not sure I'll really be able to help much on the science stuff unless you need things lifted and moved. Think I'm picking up a bit but still far from either of you."

"Well, unless things go
really well we'll have some more work to do, so you can always help us later", she says.
"Susumu-san, if you're ok we can start soon, though"
OOC:
Dario's got one roll made already. I'll allow the thread to be created later and roll already as well. Then if needed we can pick up on D11.
Thanks for the threads btw
