Kioku looks at Kanna surprised, but relieved. "They just appeared! The samples!!", she says, keeping her back to the desks.

She then swipes her Densai with her free hand, whispers a prayer, and a powerful gust of wind emanates from her, sending the Raven-like creature flying to the ground. The other two creatures seem hardly affected, though

Lore check results

• Kitsu Kanna and Kitsune Kiyoshi know without doubt that these creatures are Gaki-do spirits, although they seem to have a stronger tie to Ningen-do than usual. Possibly a result of an interweaving of realms caused by the Kinuran accident?
• Kitsu Kanna and Kitsune Kiyoshi also know that, as spirits, these creatures are harder to damage with physical attacks.
• Both Kitsu Kanna and Kitsune Kiyoshi also remember stories of similar hungry dead draining life from those they attack.
• Kitsune Kiyoshi notices the larger abomination seems to emanate a much stronger spiritual energy than the other two, creating something like a local Rift between realms.
• Kitsune Kiyoshi also notices the spirits seem to be drawn to Kioku, and/or something behind her. It's not unlikely she and that something is what has attracted the spirits here.

Seeing that thing show up ahead, Kazumi felt a shiver up his spine, but he grit his teeth and steadied his breath. Whatever this was, he was ready for it.

Gun still at his side, he moved carefully and quietly through the tunnel to not attract attention, stepping to stand between Kiyoshi and Kanna. Hopefully that monster wouldn't notice him there.

The large twisted creature in the centre of the room creeps, or oozes, through the desks and workstations at the centre of the room, slowly moving a bit closer to Kioku. With how slow its movement is, it looks as if it will take long to get close enough to hurt her.

But then it stops and a misshapen appendage suddenly stretches out, a mix of flesh and a leather-like skin producing a sort of tentacle covered in teeth in the most unlikely places.

"ꌩꂦꀎ ꅏꀤ꒒꒒ ꍟꈤꀸ ꒒ꀤꀘꍟ ꀎꌗ!, the degenerated voice resounds through the room.

Despite Kioku's efforts, the twisted toothed tentacle hits her leg, biting deep and leaving a splatter of blood on the ground as it retreats back to the monstrous spirit.

As the shot hits the hyaena-like creature, piercing its semitransluscent fur, it lets out something between a yip and a howl. The 'blood' that splatters out is half scarlet, half blue, and its fur seems to waver as if trying to wrap itself back into place.

As Kanna already knew, the creature's spiritual nature would probably make physical weapons less effective. But the shot seemed somewhat effective at least, and the spirit seemed to feel some discomfort.

From where Kanna stands now, she can see the whole scene. A short distance behind Kioku, two Spine drakes fly close to her, sending off worried noises. To the left, in a training garden behind half-shattered glass panels, a man in his late thirties or early forties has his hands extended to the sides, trying to protect a boy and a girl who have fear expressed in their eyes. To the right, something shifs slightly under a table - the quiet contained sniffing coming from there soon revealing another child, a 7 or 8 year-old girl. Another training garden lies to the right, behind other glass panels - these apparently still intact.


The father keeps his hands extended and points to the corridor, but certainly won't move before the children do.


The snake summoned by Kiyoshi meanwhile still seems puzzled by the whole scene, but slithers to the front of the Kitsune, staying close to the shugenja as if to protect him from harm. It wasn't all clear who all these other people were yet... but the shugenja was its friend, that much it knew!

Dai's shot runs close to the misshapen creature, close enough that it slightly grazes its surface, sending off a dark-yellowish substance oozing from where the bullet passed. As it touches the ground, a putrid surface which might have gone unnoticed before in the heat of the moment, becomes very noticeable - not enough to cause any immediate reactions, but definitely disgusting.




The two kids on the left, incentivised by their father, take the courage to start moving towards one of the corridors - immediately followed by the man, who keeps his arms extended to protect them, even at his own cost.


The girl on the right, however, keeps cowering under the table, alone. "Okasan... will you be okay??, she asks in a low whimper.

Kioku, despite the wound on her leg and her shaking hands, takes a step back to keep close to the Rainbow Olm Sample and, once again, whispers a prayer to the Air Kami. Once again, a strong wind blows from her, causing some "flesh" wounds to the three spirits. This time, however, even the Raven holds its own against the wind. The Hyaena seems rather hurt, its transluscent fur apparently becoming more transparent in parts - which reveals parts of a rather disturbed internal anatomy.

The Hyaena-like gaki lets out an otherwordly whimper-yip, then rushes forward with its maws wide open to bite the already hurt Kioku!

Easily finding an opening, the creature bites her leg again, and more of her blood splatters on the ground. The wound seems to radiate a dark energy, and the creature's ectoplasmic fur immediately regains some of its colour!


The Raven, seeing Kioku busy, bites into the desk he's perched in instead, trying to reach into it for the sample stored inside. The creature scratches it with its claws, tries to hits it with its beak, but the hard wooden surface still resists for the time being.

In another universe, Kiyoshi might have drawn his sidearm in a valiant attempt to help Kioku. But, in this universe, he knew how futile that effort might be. As he followed Kanna, he whispered a familiar prayer to the water kami, blessing the Lion with good fortune in the fight before them.

Once that was done he looked at the snake, explaining. "These animal spirits are lost. Need peace."

The large amalgama of blood, bone and horror hadn't been hit, but as its many misplaced eyes could see, the ꂵꀤꌗꉣ꒒ꍏꉓꍟꀸ ꀸꍟꌗꍟꋪ꓄ꍟꋪ would soon be back to their company in suffering. So its many heads, skulls and eyes turned towards the corridor where ꀤ꒒꒒-ꁅꀎꀤꀸꍟꀸ ꎇ꒒ꍟꌗꃅ had shot in its direction.

"ꅏꃅꌩ ꀸꂦ ꌩꂦꀎ ꀤꈤ꓄ꍟꋪꎇꍟꋪꍟ?! ҈ ҈f҈҈o҈҈O҈҈l҈҈s҈!!!!

It starts moving towards the corridor first slowly, creeping along the desks as before. Suddenly, however, it starts going flowing and oozing much faster - almost as fast as a person would be, in fact - until it is right besides Kanna.
