[D1LM] Office Work

[Usagi Rei]

"Can confirm, tasty dango." Rei said, chuckling softly. "I ate about four sticks of the stuff yesterday."

He murmured thanks for the tea, taking a fresh sip of it. "But yeah, I had a good time. Interesting." Met several pop-stars... Rei decided not to share that.

He glanced at Kiyoshi. "The crowds?" He asked encouragingly.

[Kitsune Kiyoshi]

"It was like a concert. You could feel the energy from most of the people at the festival." he explained. "Even with the rain, they were having a good time. Together they chanted the names of Scorpion legends, even if they didn't know who they were. There's nothing like listening to the audience sing along with you."

Nodding, Rei took a sip of his tea. "Hmmm. Alright." He considered that a few moments.

Then he shrugged. "Heh, maybe I felt the same way the first time I went to the festival." He didn't think so, though. "But this is my third time." Rei shrugged. "Mostly I like the dango."

[Hotaru Tsuyo]

The Firefly nods at the characterization. "power in crowds all set in the same direction, I get it. Even if I've no care to direct it like you do on stage. Makes the crowd more interesting than the day to day crush of 'em all, for sure."

The jaded Hare gets a look. "Well, after a few years looking at them, any standout floats this year? Or do they just use the same ones every year?"

[Usagi Rei]

"Hmmm..." Rei leaned back, starting to cross his arms behind his head, but instead one hand settled on Airi. "I know they reuse a lot of them, but I think they also do at least one new one every year." He frowned, thinking. "The Bayush Hoshi one I hadn't seen before. The field of stars effect they gave him was pretty impressive, actually. Not sure how they managed that."

He chuckled, shaking his head. "The Bayushi Tengen one always gets a chuckle out of me, I'll admit. All those impending disasters on the float..." Rei smiled. "I should look him up sometime. I wonder if our libraries has anything on him?"

[Hotaru Katsutoshi]

"Well that all sounds like fun. Guess I've got a lot to look forward to...next year." A self-deprecating smile crept onto his face and he sipped the tea.

"Hmm? Oh I'll be surprised if the library doesn't have a section on old heroes of the Empire. It's impressively comprehensive, you can lose hours in there."

[Usagi Rei]

Rei shot the other man a sympathetic smile. "Hey, don't worry, there's more fun coming up. And more work. I'll try to remember to grab you next time." He promised. Although not tonight... "You ever been to the Wicked Wasp?"

"Hmmm..." Rei pursed his lips. "I bet it does. Been a while since I've done any exploring..." He waggled his head back and forth. "I'll admit, it's a very impressive collection. It's impressive that we've held onto it for so long."

[Hotaru Katsutoshi]

"Oh yeah, I saw MC Shrike at the Wasp a few weeks ago! And they had a Soshi Electronica theme night when I first arrived. It was really fun but I couldn't dance much what with the gravity." He chuckled and looked over at Tsuyo. "I guess that's pretty normal for us."

As for the library. "Well, we've always had to make the best of what we've got. Shows how resourceful we are too. And I have to admit it's pretty nice to read things on paper for a change."

[Hotaru Tsuyo]

Tsuyo bends slightly to tap her mug on her leg with a quick, metallic *tang, tang*. "Yeah, haven't gotten in much dancing with this lady here. But the Wasp's got a good rotation most of the time. Nice spot ta get some work in."

"Library's been sweet. Most of my life, paper books were some weird thing that showed up in holos sometimes, you know? They've got a feel and a smell to them..." Her free hand moves in a page-flipping motion. "There's somethin' about savin' your words for centuries in a hard form like that... it's appealin' someway."

She blinks out of the reverie where she'd just started the crosslinking connecting the physicality and resiliance of sculpture to words...time travel, and divinity, and human souls starting to tangle into something that might find expression in stone some day. "But that star field thing was pretty clever. You set the holoemitters to do the stars with a random resistor swap on a random cycle among them and that twinkle get pretty realistic. The detail there was superb, just a hint of color to enough'a the stars to hint at the red ones and so on. I bet a Navigator coulda looked and told you where the map even came from."

Grinning, Rei shook his head. "So you're saying they used some sort of technology. I see." He grinned at her a moment longer. "I do appreciate listening to an expert in their field, even if I don't understand a word of it."

Rei let out a sigh, swivelling idly in his chair. "If it helps, I'm not much for dancing, either." He shrugged. "It's just not my thing. But I go there to have a drink, listen to some music, watch people... it's good for that, at least."

[Hotaru Katsutoshi]

Katsutoshi grinned. "Wow, that sounds pretty sweet! You know, we could probably set one up in the library, to go with the deep space records. Show you where you're reading about... With less twinkling and randomness of course."

With a last swig of tea he set the mug down and picked up the Densai again to make a few calculations. All Firefly had at least basic engineering knowledge, and he'd been pretty hot at it in his previous career.

[Hotaru Tsuyo]

She nods at Rei. "Yeah, good watching people spot. Buncha the DJs are good, and the drinks're fine for the price."

Then, looking at the walls of books, she considers. "Yeah? Could set something up in that corner...give it a scannin' input so you can show it a page, maybe? Might need more work than I've got the time for, but if you're stickin' around, Hotaru-san*...I can help with initial design and then you've got yourself a solid side project, neh?"


*figure the Firefly might be less formal among themselves but more correct in public.

[Hotaru Sakura]

"Ohayo minna-sama!"

Came a cheerful greeting as a lithe lass entered the room, bowing to everyone. She held some kind of holoslates in her hand.

"Sorry to bother, I just want to finish reshelving the section on Interstellar Cartography. The collection on Anomalies That Will Eat You was all over the place!"

She shook her head, before moving towards the books.

[Usagi Rei]

Rei swiveled in his chair a bit, flashing a smile at the newcomer. "Good morning, Hotaru-san." His smile quirked. "Sounds ominous. I hope that section isn't too large."

He shifted a little, drawing a quiet hiss from Airi. "I'm not going anywhere." He assured her, looking back up. "We were just discussing our festival experiences. Did you get a chance to see anything?"

[Hotaru Katsutoshi]

Katsutoshi agreed that Tsuyo's plan sounded good. It could be a fun project.

"Hotaru-san! Hello, good to see you." He offered to get some tea for her while she told them about her festival experiences.
