Sumiko picked up a drink, looking thoughtful.

"Well, we could try and access a database. I'm not sure I would be well suited to accessing a physical library without permission."

"Do we know of any others who might have studied in the field that might have the answers we seek?" she asks, still looking through the text of one of the books. Scanning through a bunch of text that wasn't useful for the hope that she might catch a line that was. Eyes kept to the page even when she drinks from her tea.

[Susumu Yakumo]

Yakumo couldn't remember anything worthwhile from her uncle's lessons on the spirit realms, and she didn't really bother speaking that obvious fact out loud.

"Hmmm... Miya Nishida seems like someone clever, but I don't know if this is his field of expertise? He is someone I would trust though, as he was already aware of some things going on when I spoke with him the other day."

Let's see... Hinata was a shugenja, but was even more of an airhead than herself, so no go. "... Yoritomo Seika is a priestess though. I can't speak for how much she might know on the subject, but perhaps the right prayers to the kami might give her some insight... and I would trust her."

Sakura listened while she handed off books as needed. "Seika-sama is surely to be helpful, she looks very bright." She glanced between the others. It seemed that they were running in circles.

"Not sure how much Usagi-sama has spoken of my background, but if need be, I can potentially acquire some...assets, if we wish to check the "public" Scorpion records."

Yes, she was using air quotes. "Susumu-sama, the short pretty one, not the tall pretty one, I mean, is quite good at making computers do what she tells them to do, after that."

[Usagi Rei]

Rei grunted, tossing the book he had been reading casually back onto the table.

"It does seem like we're gonna need to bring more people in on this." He grimaced. "I know another Imperial. He's weird, but it might be worth a shot? I'm not sure..."

"Considering how complicated this issue seems to be, I am not surprised we need to expand our web." A very Spider way to put it. "We begin with those we believe can be trusted. And, I would advise that we do not disclose the identity of the Lord Magistrate. Unless absolutely needed. I don't think we need to cause a diplomatic scandal... well, not anymore than what we're already doing."

"Asking after a concept is easy enough without revealing who, I would think," she says, looking up from her book in hand. Closing it, and pushing it off into her neatly formed 'discard' pile as it was not of any use to them either. Still looking around the group as she grabs another and sets it into her lap. Only to focus herself on Yakumo.

A raise of her brow, "Web?"

"I would be wary of involving too many more people. The more that know, the more chance of information slipping out."

Sumiko looked towards the report.

"Being caught with information like that won't sit well with the Scorpion. At best we may find ourselves cast off this world, at worst we may become targets that require liquidating as the report so nicely put it."

She looked back at the group, Rei earning a small glare for book abuse from the little librarian but she soon settled back to a neutral look.

"I'm quite good with computers and can assist where needed. I imagine our secret information provider may be better suited if you were able to provide the goods to Susumu-sama" she motioned back at the report then nodded to Yakumo "as I imagine someone who can pull that level of information isn't going to do things like that openly."

[Usagi Rei]

Grimacing, Rei took a sip of tea. "It's always a danger, the tug between being too cautious and too bold." He pressed his lips together. "Given the rumors that have been floating around, I feel that some boldness is required. Before anyone should come to harm." His eyes were kept firmly downcast.

He looked around. "Only those we know and trust." He suggested.

"Yes, a web. Or... is it net, perhaps that others use in their figure of speech?" Yakumo mused as she shot Koyuki a small smile.

"And I'm not saying we're parading this shit around, but all of us are clearly drawing blanks at the moment. So we're seeking out people we trust, and it seems we are agreed on Miya-sama and Yoritomo-sama. I trust Miya-sama, as he is already aware of some of the current dangers, having figured out some of it himself - he is clearly clever and knows how to snoop around too. I already have a meeting scheduled with him today too."

There was a sense of finality to her words; she had decided, that is how it was going to be.

"As for Yoritomo Seika-sama," Yakumo looked to Sakura who had been the woman's oshidama partner so it seems like they knew eachother well. "She has a kind heart and understands discretion; two rare things to possess in an ally. If you could talk with her, Hotaru-san? You don't have to disclose all the details of course, but enough for her to be able to shed light on the situation. As I said before, we don't need to advertising all we know."

Since someone had to take charge, Yakumo did, rising from her seat as she did just to drive that point home. One hand on her hip and the other holding her bubble tea in a somewhat authorative manner. "We have a start now, we know eachother and who we can trust. We all have our different areas of expertise that we'll use. And yes, I will see what our intel-provider might further find, since we now have some ideas on where to start."

OOC: To avoid confusions IC and OOC, people can state OOC plainly what their approaches will be from this point on.
Yakumo will speak with Nishida, see if he might know anything or have uncovered any different info on the topic than they might have. Also she is meeting with the Magistrate again later, so she will see what she can work with there. Yakumo possess no skill for hacking or knowledge stuff, and isn't any good at investigation-things, so her approaches are the social ones.

Sharing that brief smile with Yakumo, Koyuki nods and turns her attention to add on a touch more supporting guidance.

"Seeking an expert for a theory question should not risk any attention we aren't willing to attract. It is hardly the most suspicious question to ask those who are knowledgeable about such things," she says, and then rolls her eyes considering all the times she's had very similar questions thrust upon her for her own fields.

"Having met both of the individuals presented I could not disagree with seeking their aid. We will need a specialists opinion to discover the best path forward, and so to not seek a specialist for the answer would be riskier and frankly stupid," she says, and punctuates that with a sip of her tea. Rolling her shoulders she looks down quick at her assembled books. "We do have some funds still untapped, not much, but perhaps this might be of use to particular portions of this investigation?"

Koyuki still has 5 Koku. Having been given 5 before for this very investigation, spending 2, and then winning 2 at the Sole Survivor I and she would happily put that toward these efforts. Though I suspect if we're seeking information in the slums at all, Rei would be the best choice.
