D5 LM--Sea and Tea

[Yoritomo Seika]

"Hah, well, it turns out we both used to play a lot years ago. It's not not much, but when everybody competing is an amateur, a little edge like that can go a long way." Seika sips her tea, following the topic-redirection amicably. It's not as if the conduct of the Spider delegation on New Kalani is anything she desperately wants to reminisce about either.

"I'm glad you had fun. Maybe it's, like, an ancestral thing, but I feel like a sunny day by the sea makes basically anything better, including sports. And tea." Well, it's not very sunny yet at the moment--the clouds are still breaking up--but it will be soon.

[Ide Yamako]

She smiles, relaxing a bit. “Yes, it seems to brighten me up as well. I fear Noburu-San will miss the waves. Our planets are not known for them like you’re. Perhaps I should try to bring him a souvenir.”

"A shell?" Seika suggests. "I think there're some shelled ocean molluscs here. If you hold an empty shell to your ear, you can hear the waves, right? When the air kami go in there, they remember the sounds, even when the shell's really far from any ocean. I used to keep some of them in my room as a little kid, the years we lived on-station at the shipyards."

[Ide Yamako]

"Oh that's perfect! Something to remind him of the sounds. I'll have to go comb the beach tomorrow and find just the right one." She sips her tea and offers to pour more for Seika.

[Yoritomo Seika]

Seika smiles, genuinely pleased that her suggestion suits Yamako's fancy. "Sure, thank you." She slides her teabowl across the table for a refill.

"What's your homeworld like, besides not having a lot of ocean? I, uh, don't remember exactly where you're from..." Seika admits, a tiny bit sheepish. "Wasn't it one of the newer colonies, though?"

[Ide Yamako]

She smiles. “No harm Yoritomo-Sama. It is Kuwagata, one of the newer colonies. What we lack in ocean we make up in plains, so the horses love it there. Breeding and caring for horses is a large part of the life there.” She pours the tea for Seika.

“Simple but with heart. What of your home? How would you describe it?”

[Yoritomo Seika]

"Kuwagata... that's where those pretty insect husk jewels come from, right?" The jewels are almost unobtainable in Mantis space, but Seika has seen one once or twice.

"Hmm." She taps her fingers on the sides of her tea bowl. "I kind of have more than one? I was born on Irontide, big industrial world orbiting Thunder's Home. The mineral mines and the terrestrial factories have done a number on the air quality there, unfortunately. It's all right up in the mountains, but pretty bad closer to sea level. My grandmama used to go sunning on the north continent beaches when she was a girl, but you'd need a rebreather for that now." Her lips quirk wryly. "Awfully nice sunrises and sunsets, at least."

"And then my family's other home is the orbital shipyards space-side from the planet. Big space stations, not a lot of frills. And I lived several years on Dawn, which is the Moshi homeworld, really jungly with forest right up to the edges of the land. It's still wild in places there." She shrugs as she lifts the tea bowl to her lips again. "They all felt like home while I was there, even though they're really different, you know?"

[Ide Yamako]

She nods. "Yes, they're quite a commodity. The beatles are also used for riding by the Moto." She sipped her tea. "So you've been a traveler, seeing a lot of different places. That makes sense. You have...a flexibility to your spirit. An adaptability if you will."

[Yoritomo Seika]

"Oh, well... I've still spent most've my life in the Thunder's Home system if you want to add it up that way. Just different planets." Seika shrugged. "That's kind of what I was doing on New Kalani, though. Trying to figure out how adaptable I could be."

[Ide Yamako]

She nods. “One learns what one can do when one has the least resources. It gives one an inventiveness that can be lacking when one has more resources.”

"Least resources, and really different expectations." Seika's lips quirk.

"How long are you staying here, Ide-san? The whole winter court thing, or just a short trip?"

[Ide Yamako]

She chuckles. “That I could imagine.” She sips her tea. “Just for Winter Court. Then I will be heading back to unicorn lands. What about you?”
