Social positions and status

Status means different things depending on how the samurai serves their lord. We have listed some examples below on how Status Ranks correlate with duties and obligations samurai might have.
Status in Rokugani armed forces
Status 1 corresponds to private.
Status 2 corresponds to nikutai, a group or section leader
Status 3 corresponds to gunso, a platoon leader or a squad/section leader in elite forces
Status 4 corresponds to chuui, a company commander or platoon commander in elite forces
Status 4.5 corresponds to taii, a battalion commander or company commander in elite forces
Status 5 corresponds to chuusa, a legion commander
Status in diplomatic services
Status 1 corresponds to a courtier/diplomat
Status 2 corresponds to particularly trusted courtier/diplomat
Status 3 corresponds to official aid to clan ambassador or family ambassador
Status 4 corresponds to family ambassador
Status in academia
Status 2 corresponds to post-doctorate fellow with few students of their own
Status 3 corresponds to primary investigator / group leader - usually assistant professor who also gives lectures
Status 4 corresponds to a professors with several groups under her/his wing.
Status in Rokugani companies
Status 1: Regular samurai - junior experts, specialists, reporters, managers of a group of heimin agents
Status 2: experienced specialists, junior managers of a small teams of samurai (5-8)
Status 3: highly skilled specialists of a single field or a manager of larger team of samurai (10-15)
Status 4: Manager of other samurai managers, specialist overseeing other specialists in a technical capacity

Status 1: Doshin
Status 2: Yoriki
Status 3: Deputy Magistrate
Status 4: Magistrate
