[D6 MM] Perseverance

Koroshi was dressed in a subdued brown tweed jacket and matching pants as he drank tea in the lounge. It barely managed to hide his bandages from view but he did look slightly thicker than normal. And far sadder. He waited for the Miya to come down for breakfast while working out what he would say to explain himself.

Nishida came into the lobby, already wearing his usual suit and carrying a small package. He quickly sat down with Koroshi. "Good morning Otomo-san, I hope you are well?"

"Of course Miya-sama, this one is really very well indeed! Aside from a few scratches gained last night during the unpleasant spiritual experience, this one is whole and healthy. Your concern speaks to your enormous benevolence!" Koroshi rose from his seat to bow before sitting back down.

"This one has requested rice for breakfast, if Miya-sama would like some?"

"Of course, one must eat well in the morning to have the strength toaster ones day" he replied and put the package he took with him down.

Koroshi busied himself getting the Miya's order to the nearby servants and then sat back down. "Miya-sama likely has questions. This one will do his best to answer."

"To get the most obvious out of the way, what happened and can you show me the sword?" he asked, waiting patiently for the servants to attend to them.

"Hai!" Koroshi jumped up and moved swiftly back to his quarters. He returned to sit across from the Miya in a little bit. He put the sword across from the other Imperial so that he could look at it.

"This one was taking his evening walk and ended up at the edge of the Desolation. The gaki appeared on the wrong side of the wall, having eaten someone. It had finished its meal and was looking for the next one. Thankfully a few other samurai, Yūrei-san and Mirumoto Shigure-san, were on hand to assist this one. It was very large, much larger than a bear. Long claws, flaming eyes, skull head. Repeated prayer to the fire kami was necessary, as well as a few bullets to remove it as a threat to our person. Within the remains was a sword, the one you see before you. The mon is a Scorpion personal one, and considering where I found it, and in the condition it is in..." Koroshi brushed his fingers across the burned saya. "This one's flames would not do this, especially when this one struck the creature's head only. This burn came from much hotter flames. Flames like the ones that leveled the Desolation."

Nishida was silent for a while, eyeing the sword. "Does anyone besides the ronin know about the sword?" was his next question, followed by "Have you asked the spirits who the sword might have belonged to?"

"Unsure. But I reported it to the Scorpion guardsmen and they likely passed their info on up to the magistrates." Koroshi shrugged.

"This one did speak to the spirits but did not receive a reply."

He crossed his arms and thought, "You will probably be questioned about the incident sooner or later. I'm not an expert on marauding ghosts, so I'll ask you: Is it normal for ghosts to carry katanas in them?"

"Ah...no. That is quite unusual. And depending on whose sword this is, and considering it was found in a gaki, this could be dangerous knowledge." Koroshi explained needlessly.

He nodded. "Well, Otomo-san, as you said, this could lead to a diplomatic incident. The Scorpion has some secrets here that he would prefer to keep to himself."

He pushed the package over to Koroshi, "Take this Glimmerstone here, for example. According to reports, it is supposed to increase the power of Shugenja."

The servants came and prepared breakfast.

"Or take the knowledge that genetic experiments have taken place here. A number of things have happened here, so we should be careful what we do and how we go about it."

"Of course Miya-sama, this one will take the upmost care with their words and person!" Koroshi said putting the sword back by his side. "But this one does not think the Scorpion will act openly against the Imperial House. The clan does not appreciate the appearance of bucking the Emperor anymore than the Lion do, for all their sneakiness."

"I don't think they would act openly either," he said, leaving unsaid the possibility of other methods.

"Be that as it may, you did well to tell me about the sword. I could investigate who it might have belonged to."

Koroshi showed him the pincer mon with the veil one more time. "Of course, Miya-sama. Is there anything else?"

He memorized it well, "If I learn anything I'll get back to you" he said with a final tone to the matter. "Shall we start with breakfast then?"
