The Otomo ate very little during the midday meal, as he felt it important to continue his work on getting the spiritual substance to react correctly with the apparatus he had set up to test the power of the glimmerstone. This caused him no small degree of shame when the rumbling from his stomach was picked up by the sensitive equipment he had arrayed on the table. Even more shame when he was initially fooled into thinking it was something more.

He ordered some more rice after turning off the lamp to the desk.
