[D9 EA outside, open] A beast, a worry and a frown

Post by Mirumoto Shigure »

Not much to see at the outskirts of the desolation, for Shigure it was a wall he couldn't cross. The Mirumoto stood where the beast had attacked the small group of samurai. He looked beside him. "I don't know. I cannot do it... crossing over to find him... The tie is strong but the vows are stronger... no I will not break my integrity to get what I need... I am sure... Yes it is... why would he be here... " he took a breath and frowned. "Do you think he could have turned into one of those creatures?" He looked up "I wonder..."

The landscape and the environment of the destroyed area of what was previously part of the 71st habitation District is hardly a hospitable one. Those who go inside generally have very specific business - whether to "excavate" for remains of the life that previously happened here, to hide oneself, to hide something or one's activities, or something else. But it wasn't an area particularly conducive to pondering while one tries to find what they're looking for.

In large part, because those who go inside have a reasonable chance to be found before they find whatever it is they're after.

Image
As the discussion rages on in Shigure's head, as he wanders some more steps inside the destroyed sector it doesn't take long before some large, faintly glowing butterflies start fluttering around him, first only a few things in increasingly large numbers.

(OOC: Will Shigure react? Go deeper inside? Stay there? Go back to the checkpoint and leave? Or something else?)

He seemed to continue talking to himself. "You always thought I was the smart one..." The Mirumoto noted the butterflies. "These for some odd reason reminds me of you..." The Dragon looked at the gathering and started to chuckle. "Lost souls you say... hrmmm... do you think he is one of them?" He stopped to wonder and moved his hand to let one of the butterflies sit on his hand.

One of them actually does, for a moment. The others keep fluttering around him, though, and there seem to be more and more of them. After a while, he seems to be almost like a beacon, which can't be helpful in staying unnoticed...

After a while, he starts hearing a low, buzzing noise which gradually gets louder and louder.

Image
Suddenly, he sees them, coming from below as if they were somewhere in tunnels underneath the destroyed district. As if guided my malign intent, swarms of semi-transluscent wasps descend upon the samurai and start searching him, trying to find something to thrust their proboscis into.

(OOC: Dayflip is upon us, so we'll have to wrap this up soon - but please make these two rolls and any others I ask for here. You have my permission to do so, even after dayflip, but let's wrap this up as soon as we can so you can start your D10. I'll ask you to not start your D10 before this scene is finished, as this is a dangerous location!)

"Shigeru..." He looked at the butterfly that briefly sat on his hand. "Right... ouch"

The Mirumoto flinched at the sudden bite.

"WHAT THE ..." The Dragon's reflex was to shake them off but probably not in a threatening way.

The wasps insist and insist, but with his quick reflexes, Shigure manages to keep most of them away from his Rifle, moving away from where most of them were and leaving both moths and wasps behind.

When they're finally gone, he notices he's underneath the door sill of a door that's no longer there, to a house that's now in pieces. As his eyes shift to what was once the inside of the house, he gets the feeling that there is... something, behind the ruined structure of a staircase, reflecting the little diffuse sunlight that filters through the mist covering the city now and then.

What is was is not clear from where he's standing.

(No worries. Let's just wrap this up soon if we can! Does Shigure go inside to investigate what is reflecting the light?)

The Mirumoto lost, he sees the light and followed it. "I am sure...I doubt I will be joining you so soon." The Dragon smirked.

The reflected light seems to come from a corner where rubble is piled up besides part of a wall that's still standing. As Shigure walks closer, it becomes clear what the reflection comes from.

A few small mirror shards are scattered under the remains of what must have once been a cupboard, a chest of drawers or some similar furniture. And, sticking out from under the splittered wood remains, the tip of a blade, light still glistening in parts of it despite the obvious signs of damage.

It seemed to be stuck under the remains, but with some effort it should be possible to move it.

Shigure was curious about the blade but the shards were sharp. "Ouch..." He looked at where the wasp had stung him. He shook his head and tried to concentrate on the task he wanted. He tried to find a piece of wood to move the debris around the blade.

It would take some time and effort - Shigure had to remove the remains of almost half the piece of furniture before he could free enough of the blade that it could be pulled. Looking down, he notices the tip of another, smaller blade by the first one, and more mirror shards.

The reflection of his face on the shards, and the shape of the larger blade's saya, which is now visible, immediately bring an image to his mind.

That saya, that blade.... these were not any swords.

This was Shigeru's daisho.

As the realisation dawns on him, he hears a low, keening cry in the distance. It didn't sound like it came from inside the ruined house. But... was it coming closer?

His eyes open wide and water as he sees his brother's daisho. The unicorn will pay if something had happen to Shigeru. The Dragon head the cry and quickly wiped the tears from his face. He picked up the blades and went to check what was making the crying noise.

He took cover since he knew there oni looking creatures lurking around.

No Oni were there, thankfully. Nor any other spirits seeming directly hostile, or anything that seemed to notice Shigure's presence.

As he hid himself and looked about, at first nothing was there. Soon, though, he sees a ghastly forming wandering about, entering the house - not from the door, but apparently traversing a wall.

Image

The spirit seems to wander from one pile of rubble inside to another, then looks down as if staring at the shattered mirror, then goes back to going from one part of the ruins to another, as if searching for something. They seem absolutely oblivious of the Dragon's presence, but their ununnatural presence is enough to inspire fear in the hearts of most.

(Please roll vs Fear 2 - Raw Willpower + Honour vs TN 15. If you fail, you suffer a -2k0 penalty to all rolls. Also tell me what Shigure will do!)

Being followed by a judgemental ancestor, a spirit the idea of gaki walking (floating) around wasn't that frightening. They are probably looking out for their home. It was always unclear where the heimin and the eta would go in the afterlife. Should he stay and try to help the spirit move on?

He gave it some thought, decided to try and help the lost soul... hopefully the spirit would be a friendly one. He knock some wood, to let the spirit know. May be it will know about the owner of the swords, his brother.

Oddly enough, the spirit kept moving from one pile of rubble to another, as if it did not even notice Shigure's presence. At one point, it turns around to face him almost directly, but soon changes direction and, crossing parts of a half-destroyed wall as if it weren't there, moved to what must have been another room in the house.

The way out seemed to be clear. For now, least.

The Mirumoto had what he needed. So he decided it was time to go back. The spirit was no concern for him and it was getting late. He didn't want to be here too late because weird things happen at night.

The way back to the checkpoint seemed clear of spirits, bugs or anything of the kind... at least most of the way back.

As he turned the last corner, he heard a low, ghastly shriek, somewhat similar to what he had heard inside the house, and another transluscent spirit appears - this time half a torso sticking out from inside a wall. It seems to look straight at Shigure's eyes... or maybe through them, as if seeking something inside (or behind?) him.

The Mirumoto know how to backtrack his route, but something wasn't right. "OH MY KAMI... JIGOKU CURSE YOU!" He saw the creature and his flight or fight trigger.

The rest of the creature (spirit? whatever that was) is soon out of the wall. It stands looking at Shigure, or through Shigure, intently for some time, before their eyes start shifting about. Was it looking for something?

Meanwhile, some more of those butterflies descend from the sky, swarming around the Dragon.

(OOC: What's Shigure doing? It seems like you could try to cross the area where the spirit is to make your way to the checkpoint. Whether the spirit would do something against Shigure if he tries that is anyone's guess.

Alternatively, you could try to find another way to the checkpoint, although that may take a while - and you are now at -3k0 for all rolls)

His flight activated but he couldn't let the creature out. He will have to find another way. Holding in to his brother's daisho he prayed to the Kami to help him out. The butterflies gathered around him he had to not let them call upon the wasps... or maybe the wasps would attack the creature. The Mirumoto decided to run and find another way out. As he continued praying to the Kami for guidance.
