[Day 10 - Early Night] Eriko Event: Scion Showdown at the Vault! (Closed)

[Usagi Rei]

Rei nodded. "Right. We can take a look around while we plant charges. Carefully, of course."

He glanced around at the rest of the group. "Teams of two or three? It seems quiet, but I don't want to take any chances in a place like this." It was a suggestion, not an order.

[Kuni Koyuki]

With a grunt, a groan, Koyuki pushes herself to her feat and shakes out her shoulders. Still stiff from the hits, but the others had suffered worse and some were in worse shape than she. Just wasn't the physical exhaustion that tore her down so. Push forward, survive. That's all she knew how to do in the end, the thing she was best at.

"Three," she says with some authority, experience trumps rank in her world. "Lions, and us," she says, pointing everyone out. "We fought well together but I wager that split has a better idea on how to operate together more effectively than any other grouping. With wounded, we don't want anyone having to carry more weight alone. Usagi-sama," she says, and also looks to Yurei, "you take point for us."

[Yūrei]

"Of course, if there are any more monsters I'll make sure to shriek and yell."

[Kuni Koyuki]

"If you're gonna do that at least lead them away from the group, yea?" she offers as a quip, but no smirk or teasing tone to accompany it. Which made it seem a little too serious for comfort.

[Yūrei]

"I have little legs Kuni-sama, so I can only promise to try."
She grins despite the seriousness of it all before disappearing back into the shadows.

[Matsu Hide]

If this was an earlier stage in her life, Eriko might have been beating herself up for not thinking of a better witty one-liner prior to wrapping up the battle. There were easily far bigger and more important things on her mind, like Hide! Now that the danger was over and they weren't preoccupied with dangerous gunfire or something that was made up of nightmarish teeth, she made her way over to her wife. She might wrapped her in a tight hug and never let go but Hide was just bitten by...whatever that thing was. If it was biological in nature, there was no telling what else it could do to her or anyone else*.

"Hide...are you okay?" She said with a shaky voice of concern as she offered out a hand.

Hide just stood up straight and gave Eriko a big grin, rolling her bitten shoulder in place. “I’m fine now. Got a little worried myself but Koyuki-san helped out a whole lot with it.”

She looked at Eriko’s offered hand and then down at her own. They had been pretty bloody. Not just from her own but from when she stabbed Gorou. “I don’t want to get… Any of this on you.”

[Akodo Reki]

Reki raises her eyes at the sudden comments from Kuni, but given how she wasn't actually in charge didn't really press the issue. "Kuni-san." She did however having something to say. "The Hare owes me a beach date, would you be so kind as to make sure he can keep it?"

[Kuni Koyuki]

"That's the only reason I'm here, Akodo-sama," she says, with a voice that was far too tired.

[Usagi Rei]

Rei looked at Koyuki a long moment, then he nodded slowly. "Okay." He said, shifting his rifle back to ready position. He looked to the others. "Speak up if you run into trouble."

But he also took the time to flash a quick smile at Reki. He didn't say anything, just gave her a vague sort of wave, almost like a salute.

And with that, he would go the same way that Yurei went, assisting her in the search. And exploding.

[Matsu Eriko]

Hide just stood up straight and gave Eriko a big grin, rolling her bitten shoulder in place. “I’m fine now. Got a little worried myself but Koyuki-san helped out a whole lot with it.”

She looked at Eriko’s offered hand and then down at her own. They had been pretty bloody. Not just from her own but from when she stabbed Gorou. “I don’t want to get… Any of this on you.”

"Aw, shucks." She frowned. "I guess that takes cuddling off the table for a short bit. Well, I'm a professional Kuni, I think I'll be able to keep an eye on you for signs of...anything. Considering what happened to poor Cheung was almost immediate, it looks like you might be mostly in the clear. Not guaranteed, of course. It doesn't look tainted but it's hard to know for sure after looking at that thing."

[Boogiepop]

The group would be able to scour the rest of the facility without getting shot at or gnawed by any horrific creatures. It was an impressive complex but it wasn't massive enough that it couldn't be explored eventually within the next hour. They would find that most of the research and manufacturing sections had been long dormant without use. The place might have been long abandoned, vacated, and stricken off the books even prior to that fateful incident that caused desolation.

However, they would eventually find themselves in the vaulted storage area where they kept the same containers that Taiki had earlier. Many of them were kept alongside each other, much like one would do when it comes to storing munitions with a grand total of perhaps at least 100 of these having been made. Some of the containers have been cracked, perhaps by age or the explosion from earlier, with the bloom having liquified to a red slurry and diluted itself with the preserving solution. Worst of all, there were also two large containment tubes that managed to contain two preserved bodies that looked very much like the thing that Cheung had become, their bodies were muscled and sinewy with a full maw of teeth as a head. What happened to Cheung wasn't some unintentional side effect, it was very much intentionally engineered.

(If the PCs wish to safely destroy the items here and the monsters, I'll say they are able to do so with the remaining explosives and munitions from the True Scion excavation site.)

[Usagi Rei]

With a wordless grimace of disgust, Rei set about working with the others to place the charges.

[Akodo Reki]

Reki did not bother hiding her disdain. "...What price where those who made this willing to pay for victory? Their Honor at the least of it..." She looked at the others. "We made the right decision. Destroy it. Destroy all of it. This can not be allowed to be replicated."

[Matsu Hide]

Hide stared at the preserved bodies and clutched her shoulder. Why would anyone want to infect others with this? It was awful.

“None of this should ever get out. It should never have even been made.”

[Kuni Koyuki]

"Not often people like us get to make a choice like this," she idly comments to whoever's nearby as she endeavors to help Rei with the charges. Thoughtlessly digging for her inhalator but having not brought it she doesn't find anything. She'd offer no opposing opinion.

[Matsu Eriko]

"As far as one can go without consorting to maho," Eriko said regretfully as she approached one of the containment tubes. Looking at it, she couldn't even be sure that it wasn't maho with its alarmingly blood-red hues that seemed to imply something with the foul magical art. Or was it the blood spilled from countless battles? It not being Shadowlands in nature didn't excuse its existence or danger.

There was a tinge of hesitation in her as she felt some responsibility in all of this. Someone from her lineage thought it was a good idea to seek out such a thing, replicate it, and conspire with others to manufacture it as a weapon. And how many others died to make this possible or keep this a secret? There was little innocence found here. What Taiki said did sting her deep without getting shot. Her family's history wasn't hiding something great but something very abhorrent.

However, this was a threat to the Lion Clan and potentially to the Empire. Even if she found herself so deluded to be attached or possessive of this legacy, it had to be destroyed. Everything about it has been said already and she was only interested in making it happen now.

"...We're going to need more charges for these. Let me what else the Scion brought with those big guns..." And with that, she stalked off to find something to ensure all of this wasn't going to survive the night.

[Boogiepop]

None of them were exactly demolition experts but if enough explosives were thrown at the problem, it was bound to make a good part of the issue go away. The idea was to have the facility implode and collapse on itself, which was perhaps easy to do once they found some schematics where the support structures were found. The energy packs from the munitions cache the True Scions brought with them so be sufficient in zapping the various vials kept in the facility. They were also far enough from most life that it shouldn't pose much of a danger.

Once everything was ready, everyone would clear out of the facility after the detonators were set. They managed to clear a fair bit of distance before the earth would seem to erupt from within before sinking down into a fissure. The surrounding temple ruins would seem to rumble and their integrity would give way, further burying what remained of the facility. With that threat erased from the World of Dreams, the group would make their way back on one of the vehicles without further incident.
