[Kuni Koyuki]

Joining along, just a few steps behind Reki. Koyuki pulls out her sidearm to double check her ammo, and glances over everyone present. Lingering gaze on Rei and Eriko both longer than the others, "A little more aid from the kami, and we can push on if you wish Eriko-san. However, I am only here to make sure that you both make it back alive. Do what your heart tells you to, you have my blessing," she says, offering half a smile.

With a hand, she beckons Rei over first and casts Eriko a look that said 'You're next' just as easily as if she'd said it vocally.

Rei sighed, looking at the entrance.

"I feel like we should probably check it out. I wouldn't feel comfortable otherwise. Just in case blowing it up doesn't solve the problem. It's a definite Plan B, though."

[Akodo Reki]

"What is in there exactly?" Reki asks, she glances at Rei and a briefly flash of concern crosses her eyes when she realized he had been hurt too. "And are we sure it is the only way out?"

[Matsu Eriko]

Eriko would be more than happy to accept the healing from Koyuki. It didn't quite undo the ordeal they went through when they stormed the base but it did bring her back to mostly tip-top shape. She gave a glance at Reki for a moment, almost expecting her to use her rank but admittedly she was on 'vacation. Her gaze went to everyone else afterwards. "...I don't know, to be honest. It's been something an ancestor had found and supposedly experimented on. Something likely with the aid of the Scorpions and whatever it is, it can't be very nice or pleasant. I'd say it's a family secret but now I have some lousy pirate to deal with. They aren't likely to surrender peacefully but if everyone has something left in the tank, I'd like to see this through."

[Usagi Rei]

Rei nodded. "If everyone else is in, I'm in. I don't like leaving jobs half-finished. Or letting down people who need me."

He brought his rifle to a ready position.

[Kuni Koyuki]

"I'm running low on how much I can bring people back if things go bad," she says, a touch nervous in her tone on that but she grits her teeth and puts back on the steel. Looking out over everyone present, not quite yet too weary from the fighting.

"Don't do anything risky. Winning," she looks to Reki, "isn't about victory, it's about surviving. That is all that matters here. Things get too dire? We run, the bad guys win, I'm fine with that if it means we don't leave a body behind. If everyone can agree to that," she focuses back on Eriko. "I'm going where you are either way," a glance to Hide too, "both of you. I'll drag you back out through the whole of the Desolation if I have to."

"Until then," she gives her whole body a shake. Almost like two large mitts came down hard on her shoulders to prep her for battle. Tats, in her mind, standing behind her with the strength he always had. "I'm ready for more."

[Akodo Reki]

Reki frowned as Eriko explained what she knew, "Well...given what you have learned is it something that could be...used to certain parties' advantage?" She was still after all a Lion military officer and any threats to her clan would have her attention.

Then of course Koyuki made her comment and Reki looked her in the eye. Whether intentionally or not, the Kuni had hit right on a much deeper wound. Her jaw clenched and her grip tightened on her rifle. A well of anger and sadness was visible in the depths of her eyes. She closed them and slowly her tension faded.

"My wife gave her life for the Lion. How could I look her in the eye if I was not willing to do likewise." Her eyes slowly opened back up and looked back at the Kuni, "But we also shouldn't needless throw our lives away."

[Matsu Hide]

"I wouldn't back down after all this." Hide looked between the others that had gathered, giving them each a nod. "I'm glad we found such reliable people here. Thank you. All of you. For helping us out with this and putting your lives on the line."

[Matsu Eriko]

Eriko gave a long look at everyone in the party and decided that it was probably best to see this through rather than take the supposed easy way out. She still took the charges for later, just in case. It was likely they were going to need to blow up something at the end of this. They just needed to make sure those True Scion bastards were sorted out first. "Thank you, minasama. All right, let's end this now."

She took the lead and made her way down to the excavation. It looks like the True Scions had spent the last few days digging through their share of earth, foundation, concrete and even some of the city's utilities to get where they wanted to be underneath the temple grounds. It wasn't elegant but perhaps easier than needing to worth through the old rubble of the building. It seemed that they had finally found the supposed vault, a large set of doors that looked like they were as thick as the metal used for ship hulls. The True Scions, rather than needing to deal with some contrived puzzle to unlock the doors, seemed to have lined the entrance with explosives and blown it wide open. The doors would lead to a tunnel that was further reinforced by the same material along its walls that might have protected it from what happened to the surface of desolation. As they proceeded further, the vault seemed more like the interior of a research facility than a vault. They would pass what was an old security station, then followed by research stations and labs.

The True Scions unintentionally left a trail for them to follow, several flares and glow sticks were left scattered about on the floor to provide enough lighting to explore.

[Usagi Rei]

Rei advanced cautiously, his rifle at the ready. His pale eyes darted here and there, taking in their strange surroundings.

"This isn't what I expected..." He spoke in a whisper to whoever happened to be next to him.

Reki nodded and followed them down into the unknown gun at the ready. She stayed close to the Hare and her kin.

[Kuni Koyuki]

Koyuki wasn't as focused on it as Yurei was, but as the group moves forward she too would stick to what shadows there were as best she could. Not one keen on behind spotted first by her enemy if she could avoid it, a customary approach considering she was the more valuable member of her team back in the day. Never wanted to be left with a dead Kuni while you were fighting terrifying beasts after all.

As such, Koyuki keeps herself steady and merely follows with her eye on the perimeter.

Hide moved along, rifle in hand now. She made sure to help scout the front area, trying not to tip off the Scions of their approach.

[Boogiepop]

The group would creep through the darkness of the laboratory and follow the trail of lights left behind by the True Scions who had ventured in previously. It was perhaps walking into a trap but they had little options outside of wandering through the darkness themselves and trying to check every corner to ensure nothing in the darkness was waiting for them. Eventually, their venture would bring them to a tunnel with a low walkway about 15 feet above where they were waiting for them...


Taiki

"Eriko-san!" an aged man would call out from above the walkway. Despite the lighting, his rather snide grin was visible in the darkness. He was flanked by two of his men alongside him with rifles in their hands. This might have been enough of an invitation to start fighting but Taiki did have someone else with him to give some buffer room for talks...


Cheung

Looking rather worse for wear and quite beat-up, Cheung was gripped by the back of the neck by Taiki and looked very frightened.

"Thank you for giving me the time to explore this facility! It's a rather impressive family legacy you have here." Taiki would continue on with a pleased look about him. "I have to admit, I half expected perhaps a temple or a tomb where a lot of riches would be found but what's here is far far greater than that. How do you feel knowing that there isn't some sacred treasure of the century here when it comes to the great Kuni Emi but instead just a gloried weapons lab? As much as a thorn you were at our side for a while, I've come to realize that you're more help to us than we initially thought of you. You've done all the hard work of deciphering the data core and now we're just taking our share of what we're owed."

With his robotic hand, he drew out what looked like to be a glass container that was keeping what looked like an unnaturally blood-red water lily floating in a clear solution. It almost looked like a bloody haze was emerging from the flower that didn't manage to mix with the rest of the preserving liquid. "The Essence of Toshigoku...a fancy name for something engineered by Kuni Emi. A biological weapon kept locked away for nearly centuries. Don't you worry, there's more inside but here, let me give you a sample..."

With that, his mechanical hand squeezed the vial hard enough to make cracks begin to show before smashing it unceremoniously on Cheung's head. The poor ronin was pushed off the walkway and hit the ground with a thud. He was still alive but his wits weren't with him as he was completely knocked senseless, the flower had turned into a liquified red blotch on his face. Then he gagged and twisted as the effects seem to take control of his body, warping him into something else at an unbelievable rate, mutating until something that pure rage and no longer human...


Cheung???

Rei was as ready for that as he could be... which was somewhat.

On the other hand, his nerves were as steady as his training had prepared him to me.

Reki's eyes widened as it all played out and she realized the implications of what was happening...and what would happen if these men took this with them. "These man. This place. Burn it! Burn it all! For the Lion!" She snapped up her rifle, ready to take the fight to the enemy.

The monster's form might have driven others to fear...but Reki's fury only made her roar louder. "YOU WRETCHED FILTH!"

Hide didn't like where this had gone. But she couldn't back away from this now. They had to kill these Scions before they can get it back to their boss and put the ronin out of his misery.

[Matsu Eriko]

Eriko had a good feeling the True Scions were on to a big find if Taiki was here. As for the find itself, she would have never tried to translate the data core if she knew something like that was hidden in the depths of desolation. However, there was no point in beating herself up now and the monster did not phase her in the slightest. Her Crab lineage was steadfast in the face of horror and it was no different here. It was unfortunate what happened to Cheung, the ronin found himself in too deep into something that never should have involved him in the first place...
