[D4 LE] Information Event: Eyes wide shut

[Kuni Koyuki]

A Kuni was in attendance, that much was apparent from the face-paint she yet wore. Perhaps it caught some displeasure from the hosts but it was hardly something that they could feel the audacity to suggest she come without. Regardless, she worked her best to present an image that they would be otherwise quite happy with. That she was a Kuni would be known, but who, well that hardly mattered. Tonight she wore a gorgeous ensemble with a striking energy belonging to that of the element of water more heavily represented in her mask, all meeting the sophistication of this kind of high class event.

Coy, that was the name of the game in this masquerade. Those who could play coy managed to keep themselves ahead of it, and to impress as well as amuse their hosts while they entertained an obfuscated social game that was being played. Unfortunately, and perhaps expectedly, this was not a game that Koyuki was well suited for. Others might casually write it off as the curse of a Kuni being in attendance. However, the real reasons were far far more personal. Not that the hosts would ever know, for Koyuki remained steadfast far more often than they would have liked in response to these undefined rules.

It was later, when the game became far more direct that Koyuki could really rise to the occassion. Being pressed in such a way, politely impolite as it were, Koyuki was never one to rise to anger over a needless slight. Anger was always best served with a purpose, and it would have held no purpose here. With grace of a woman who'd played this game on the daily she deflected blows and perceivable insults and shifted them into a remark that at least earned one or two smiles among those attending. If only for the skill of her word, the cleverness of a lie.

Once she parted ways, she wouldn't be left without anything for her troubles. A particular hostess seemed to take a liking to her, and for some portion of the evening kept Koyuki close enough that a whisper or two did not go unnoticed, a rumor that may have been better left unshared, and a gripe of something that hinted at a different and useful truth.

[Hotaru Katsutoshi]

The nice thing about the flowing robes of the Masquerade were that they more easily concealed the missing arm and made it tricky to identify anyone. This was helpful given Katsutoshi's complete obliviousness to the rules of the game. In fact he was so bad at it that he almost certainly *must* have been doing so deliberately...

His mask was an ornate space dragon that had been sourced from an obscure little curio shop on a back street. Its curves, serrated teeth, and pointy talons looked menacing in the flickering half light of the dance. One had to be careful not to cause damage to those who came close, but fortunately this was not a drinking party. Still, after making a complete fool of himself out in the open the Firefly proved rather adept at verbally sparring with his hosts in private. His sincerity won over the initially skeptical Scorpion hosts who found themselves delighted by his company.

By the end of the night Katsutoshi had amassed a useful collection of information that would greatly benefit his clan. He was as surprised as everyone else about this.

What a pervy social arrangement! Ryuhei rather liked it. He fit right in with his black and red leathers, tight and glossy. His wife was here, and he enjoyed learning the ropes from her example, following her with his gaze. This seemed enough to swim a bit in the murky waters of Scorpion savoir vivre!

[Yoritomo Seika]

Seika enjoys playing dress-up as much as the next wealthy-heiress-with-pirate-blood, but the whole 'every word a hidden knife' element of this party is really not her vibe.

Lies always make her twitchy. Knowing that anyone she's talking to at any moment could be and indeed probably is lying, but having no way to tell, is a bit like walking around outside on Irontide during the spinegrass pollen season--a constant generalized itchiness with nowhere she can actually scratch. It all really takes a lot of the fun out of swanning around in evening wear and a shiny holographic gold mask. Instead, Seika has to keep reminding herself that she's here for duty, not fun, and that she can't just hover by the drinks table until an opportunity presents itself to sneak off somewhere more lively.

She's perfectly capable of performing the partying-for-duty role--or at least she manages to keep it together for tonight--but there aren't many moments in which she really enjoys it.
