"I am, yeah." Seika nods soberly. "The real thing, trained in Shin-Amaterasu Seido on Dawn. You can probably even look me up on the nets," she adds as a wry afterthought. She is spinning a pretty wild story, after all.

"I bet lots of the people trading the stones in this part of town don't know what they really are, though. The ronin who gave me one to look at sure didn't." At least, Dai had seemed entirely sincere in his ignorance, as far as Seika could tell. "But some of the priests who buy them would have to know. It's easy to find out, for a shugenja, just a basic divination... unless you don't want to know." She spreads her hands palm-up on the table. "You're a guy who seems to know where all the bodies are buried around here. I bet you'd have found this one sooner or later, if not from me."

"Mhmmh." Gebu listened as Seika gave him a brief rundown of her past. "Oh, I am sure I could. But I am not a stalker-y like that." he noted, chuckling. "I do trust Yoritomo-sama to be what she says she is." Having no reason to doubt Seika and the young woman just having passed him some money, so Gebu was more than happy to keep playing his role.

"That's so messed up, man. Messed up." Disbelief crept in his voice. "Yeah, but. I mean, fuck priests. Well, not you in particular." Gebu waved his hand as if to apologize for what he had said. "I wonder what the families of the dead would think if they knew. Well, most of them were heimin, so they'd be really really quiet no matter what they thought." he added dryly. "Still, it's really uncool to mess with reincarnation like that. Fuckers. I am going to need some sake tonight."

"Yeah. I guess setting them free was just looked like too much work for somebody. But, like. That's supposed to be the kind of thing priests do." Seika wrinkles her nose. "You think people would still be selling them if the word got out? The people who don't know now, that is."

"I bet those bastards didn't care. Because they could get away with it." Gebu was fuming. "This place is rotten to the core. But what can you do, stuck here like this." He added with a sigh, slapping his shamisen as he did so. "I don't know. People sell drugs to kids on the streets here. I suppose they do try to curb that down a bit, but only when it becomes a real problem. Not when the pleasure houses seek future workers. I suppose some might stop? But as long as there's koku innit?" Seika could read his expression like a book meant for kids with learning disabilities.
