Hitoko had stayed late at Chiyoko's - very late by the standards of someone who likes to keep a regular schedule. She'd had bad, creepy feelings before - how could you not, in her business? - but this one felt a little too strong, a little more real. She hadn't been drinking alcohol, wanted her senses as keen as possible, but it was getting late enough she really needed to go sleep. Big day tomorrow, she told herself as she walkeddown the street and around a corner. Of course I'm extra jittery.

In deepest of shadows, someone followed the young ronin girl, the shape almost without form, quiet as Emma-O's caress. The City of Many Sins was drowned in bright lights - lights that also cast deep shadows. In those shadows hunters thrived. Many ronin made living by taking what did not quite belong to them - spies and hackers. The Scorpion allowed this, knowing that they could in turn steal from the theiflings. Yet sometimes a wolf became too audacious. A problem. When the Scorpion could not brush actions of a wolf under a carpet, they would make the wolf disappear.

In the shadows, Silent Death quietly cocked his silenced 'Wolf's Bane Mk. II' sidearm, running his tongue along the cold plasteel barrel, smiling only as hunter could.

There was that sense, now overwhelming, that she wasn't just being watched, but was actually in danger. It was still curious, strange, but it was real.

Laying in wait, Silent Death drew aim on the ronin girl walking through the habitation district, his breath slow and steady. "Fortunes have mercy on this poor fucker. She does not know what is waiting for her. Oh Emma-O..." he began a makeshift prayer, his eyes intent on Hitoko. "..thy humble servant is about to send a soul to thy halls. If they have sinned, judge them fairly oh Great Lord of Scales, but do hurry, for her soul is about going to come mighty quick." As soon as the last words left his lips, Silent Death pulled trigger twice, Both shots striking Hitoko, the radiant energies burning
her badly. Armed with silencer as Silent Death was, Hitoko could not easily tell where the shots rang.

"Gaaagh," Hitoko groan-screams, trying to keep her head amid the almost-blinding pain. She tips over against a wall, looking frantically about to try to spot the source of the danger.

"Oh sweet Emma-O!" Silent Death took an aim, squeezing the trigger of his Wolf's Bane once more, scoring another hit on the poor wolf, the shot searing a hole through her abdomen.

The pain is so great that Hitoko's head is swimming and she could barely see straight if it was a clear day and the assassin wasn't trying to hide. Feeling the burns, the bleeding, she just takes off running as best she can, praying to Fukurokujin that she's going the right way - any way that might be safe because she can't spend more time in the line of fire.

Is this an auspicious direction, blessed Fortune? I sure hope so!

With his prey slipping out of sight, Silent Death took aim once more, muttering curses as he did so. This little punky wolf had turned out be far more tenacious than he had expected. Yet his aim was true, the shot striking Hitoko between her shoulder blades, causing her to stumble down. It seemed that the young wolf had ran out of luck.

Silent Death sighed, pecking a kiss on his gun before melting into the shadows once more, leaving the poor wolf lying on the ground. During the night, someone would come and take her belongings, her body likely having to wait until morning before the authorities would drag it to the closest crematory.
