(D3, LA) On the Sidelines (Open) - Oshidama Tournament Observation

by Hato
Not one to spend days whiling away the time with beach sports, Hato still enjoyed watching them. It wasn't a terribly high stakes tournament, but it was still interesting to watch the clans compete with one another. Plus she was going to need her energy later. Pulling a muscle fighting over a pack of beer was a terribly stupid idea.
The first team to take to the court was a Spider and a Scorpion pairing up of all things. Perhaps they had forged a bond strong their their clan's acrimony over beach sports?
Or perhaps they were each looking for an opportune time to 'accidently' injure their 'teammate'.
Hato didn't know either of them, but they seemed like a lively pair.

The next team was even stranger. Susumu Yakumo and Asahina...Asahina.....well one of the pretty boys from Usagi Drop! Didn't they have an ongoing feud? Wasn't Yakumo known for her poor health?
It was an amazing publicity stunt though. Incredible if they managed to win, but even if they didn't just the two of them on the court together was going to be all over the news tomorrow.

Hato watched the Spider and the Hare playing in their matching outfits and hi-fiving after some less that great play.
Someone was definitely going to cast those two in their doushin.
What would you call it though?

Hato frowned at the disqualification of the Kaiu. He was a really good guy and someone had been dragging his name through the mud. A win here wouldn't had wiped it off but it would have given him a beer.
She suspected monkey business.

The next team coming onto the field, Hato had at least met both of them.
The Lion looked really good in the outfit she had chosen yesterday. She played really well too. You could almost see the film of her being used as a Lion recruitment video.
And then there was the Kuni Creep. Well, her outfit was nice but that performance.....
Well, they did say healthy mind, healthy body, so it made sense for an unhealthy mind to inhabit an unhealthy body.

Kazumi was also not one for beach sports but watching beach sports? That was much more their speed. Kazumi wore something lighter than their usual jacket and short combo but the clothing was still rather loose and flowing so it obfuscated their figure in a similar way.
Finding a spot on the sidelines Kazumi noted another who seemed separate from the event "A lovely day for observing wouldn't you say Ronin-san?" Kazumi asked with their pleasant voice with just a light touch of rasp.

Mariko made an appearance at the event but she absolutely had no intention of participating in the sport, considering her lack of experience and she knew full well that it was just going to be a magnet for bad rumours if anything goes wrong. Getting a ball to the face or rolling in the sand, that's a hard pass.
The actress would show up in a rather
eye-catching red bathing suit with a matching wide-brim hat and
sunglasses. She saw the Soshi and the ronin together. Honestly, she expected a larger audience but spectator sadane wasn't going to work by herself. She would approach them to catch the scope of the game in progress.

Hato bowed deeply at the Scorpion's words.
"Lord Scorpion has the truth of the matter. This one wonders if their is a team that Lord Scorpion favors to win." she posed.
She noticed the approach of the other Scorpion. Assuming that they were there to talk to the other Scorpion, she said nothing, instead letting the Soshi welcome them in his own way."

Sadae was present as well, wearing a rather fashionable
red jimbei decorated with cherry blossoms. He was leaning against the railing that stood between the court and the audiences, his eyes more or less intent on Susumo Yakumo when she was playing, a sly smile flickering on his lips.

Senshuken also joins the spectators once she's done with her effort to win those damned beers. The young Bayushi, still in her black swimming suit and a red pair of shorts nods a hello to Yogo Sadae and anyone else she knows before taking her seat.

by Kuni Koyuki
Following her match, that very Kuni took to her retreat and found a place among the sand where she could lick her wounds. Lion were vicious when it came to Oshidama, that much was clearly certain. However, it would be hard to say it wasn't a good game. Her heart was still pumping, her focus was crystal, and she felt alive.
Koyuki was dressed in a fitting
swimwear, sunhat, a fine beach
jacket over her shoulders now that she wasn't actively playing, and all completed with the typical Kuni facepaint despite the likelihood of it being ruined by the environment. Save for the few marks where the paint had thinned, and the tones of her skin beneath shone through.
Watching Kazumi from a small bit away, she of course noticed Hato. However, her focus remained upon the Scorpion with slightly narrowed eyes. Still, regardless of words shared, a touch suspicious.

by Hitoko
After some of the adrenaline and frustration had worn off, and she'd gotten some water and towelled off to look vaguely respectable, Hitoko found a seat in the stands to observe the final matches. The common mix of feelings - wanting those who'd beaten her to lose and feel frustrated themselves, but also wanting them to win it all to assuage her bruised ego - warred within her, but there was no real window to those feelings as she became engrossed in other matches. If not obviously dressed to compete, Hitoko's cheering and engagement would make her seem like just another energetic fan.

The Sanctuary researcher arrived, dressed in one piece in different tones of red that looked somewhat like a yellowing leaf on her back, some parts of her skin showing between the leaf's nervures, a short time after the inscriptions for the games had ended, much to her chagrin. Apparently beach Oshidama was one more thing that eased at least part of the aura of melancholy that often seemed to follow her.
Although slightly frustrated, she positions herself to the sides to watch the games, Dawn and Dusk perched on her shoulders.

Putting his t-shirt back on after the smashing his dignity away in the slackline with the Kitsune idol, Setsu finds a way not to be near his friend so much as to not attract too much unwanted bad press. Kind of aloof is his distancing movement, he might have bumped into someone without intention.

"Ahhhh!" Senshu doesn't get bumped, but toe crushed. The burden of wearing flip flops. Tears almost form in her eyes and her whole face reddens behind the mask. And around the mask.

“Ah, shit!” He jumps around into a defensive odd kind of way to move both his feet away from more potential stepping. Worried, he asks, “You hurt, kiddo? Didn’t see you with all this reflection coming from the sand. Kami damned sand.”

Wow! What an excuse!
"Was it the sand or the swimsuit of invisibility? It gives +5 to all stealth rolls in beach environment." She jokes but she's obviously still in pain.

The Kaiu blinks at the comment while trying to process it and can’t help as to open a smirk to a fellow nerd as his brain makes one plus… five.
“May I get you something, a bag of ice, a folding chair — I could try to carry you to the infirmary, too. Can you walk?”

Is there even an infirmary around here? She looks around her and then drops her head to the side and closes her eyes.
"No, I can't. It will be hard, but I've lost a kilo or two recently. I believe in you, Kaiu san. Save me from the dark fate you casted upon my path!"
She opens one of her eyes. "Would you really carry me to the infirmary?"
