[D3 LA] Side event: Beach Oshidama tournament

Yamako wasn't terribly skilled at games like this, but she wouldn't let it be said that she wouldn't give her all for the clan. Clad in a sensible one piece purple suit, she stepped up to the sand. She had not managed to find a partner before, but another had been standing looking for one, so they joined forces.

What her superiors thought of her competing with a Dragon could only be wondered at.

She stepped up, thinking she had the ball but underestimated its height. Still! She would persevere.

Baiko stepped up to the oshidama court wearing a bikini and sheer sarong in Dragon green and yellow and a dreamy expression in her eyes. She may not have seemed it, but oshidama was a sport she had taken to - something to stay active with, she had played in an amateur capacity all through her education.

Spinning the oshidama on one finger and fumbling about to keep it balanced when it began to wobble off center, Baiko nodded at her Unicorn teammate. Whatever else politics happened off the court, that was for off the court.

Baiko did alright during her team's qualifying matches, attacking and defending in a purely workmanlike manner, nothing brilliant. The pair had come close to qualifying but did not manage to make the cut, alas!

Worse yet, Baiko had to steady herself after the round. The rush of the game proved dizzying!

The Bayushi tries hard, she even attempts to distract them with the employment of ancestral Scorpion teks, but much to her dismay, the 'We' re here for the beers' team doesn't seem to have a bright future in front of them.

"Come on, Hinata-san. Let's show them that we're the best." After all, one of their opponents was a ronin? How laughable!

Having recovered her breath as the other matches went on, Yakumo was somewhat back to form, though not as amazingly as in the first round. Still she put on a good show, but fatigue was setting in somewhat.

Sumiko for her part did the best she could, but her small size and lack of experience meant that she couldn't up her game enough to beat the more experienced team.

Oh no it was the glaringly colourful Imperial from that morning! Hinata bowed properly.

"Good afternoon . . . Otomo-sama . . . please enjoy . . . the match."

And then he was back to the normal over excited, exuberant sand dervish. Although this time he appeared to have figured out how to play and actually helped with the ball play rather than just being a spinning, whirling diversion.

Ryuhei needed to catch some breath after his overperforming on the qualifiers, but he still seemed to be riding on his spouse-spurred oshidama trance quite well, blocking and sending balls to the other side of the sandbox! Tenma's bewitching beachwear presence was empowering him!

The Otomo's ronin partner is likewise slowing down, and the battle with Team Diva is an incredibly close fought affair. The contest comes down to a match point that Hitoko returns - just outside the line. Hitoko is surprised, both pleasantly at the challenge and sadly with the result, standing still in shock at how close she had come to a win. Frustrated at herself for underestimating the singer team, she hangs her head, still standing on the court.

Their next matchup is against a pair who seem to have burnt themselves out somewhat in the qualifying round, and aren't covering the back of the court as well this time. Seika gives it her all, spiking the ball over their heads with a mighty leap...

Between the matches, Yakumo had cooled herself down with some water. Not only drinking a lot but also pouring it over herself because kamidamnit it was hot to do all this work! Zipper on the front of her swimsuit was also opened up a bit to allow some cool air on her skin. And yes, it did show off a little.

Somehow she and Hinata had qualified to make it to the semi's, and she faced off some familiar faces.

Hand up to her mouth, she couldn't help but to laugh after exchanging bows. "Ohohoho~! Well if it isn't little Watanabe-san. What a pleasure to run into you again here," Yakumo grinned widely, suddenly seeming... strangely alive. "Let's have a great game! Let's go, Hinata."

Sakura blushed as she watched Yakumo...."drink" water.

"Is that...normal? Did the heat get to her, you think Yoritomo-sama?" She was even parts confused and....fascinated.

Still, her teammate was counting on her. "You are right Yoritomo-sama! SPIKE MIE!" The Firefly suddenly jumped hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh, and smashed the ball down!

"FIREFLY SMASH!"

Meanwhile Hinata had spent a lot of the time between matches actually realising that there were a lot of men wearing not very much around him. So it was a rather heated Crane that came to the sand square . . . box . . . rectangle thingy.

"Hi Hotaru-samaaaaaaaaaa!!! Nice outfit!!!!!"

He waved at Sakura, instantly forgetting what he'd been blushing about and engaging SAND DERVISH mode once again. And dervish he did, playing even better than he had in the second game and coming agonisingly close to winning the game for them, but he was too short to field that final Firefly Smash and fell short in the sand as the ball bounced away.
