Paradise Interrupted [Day 11, EE]

[Kuni Koyuki]

"That sounds about right. A good message, Yurei-san," she offers, a drift to her tone like she was distracted by a thought. Focusing instead on finishing the frozen treat in her hand with a couple last little scoops and the sucking down of what was left in the cup itself. Sitting with the flavor for a while before she thought of stirring. Only doing so to let her head rest back fully and shut her eyes under the sun.

"Good message for most."

Probably.

"Oh I think so. I've made some mistakes in my time."
Grinning
"As Kuni-sama well knows. But I also held onto some things that I felt defined me, because I was wronged. Or I believed I was wronged anyway. It was the not knowing that got me. I mean, if you don't know why something happened you start to make stuff up, your subconscious gets spinning."

Now that the chocolate exterior is breached, the ice-cream core is vulnerable and Yūrei strikes.

"Then I finally found out what happened. And now I knew, and it was like...I dunno, like I looked around and everything was different. I was different, because my past was different...."
She trails off, munching quietly before continuing after a few moments
"But I wasn't, was I? I was the same person, I just knew some new things. And I could have been this newer..better...cooler Yūrei anytime I wanted. But I'd told myself I couldn't because I needed to hold onto the old me."

"I'm sorry, this is mostly me rambling."

[Kuni Koyuki]

Koyuki simply listened along, not vocalizing or giving much of any indication she was listening as a stillness overcame her while she relaxed under the sun. Had she the mind to speak on it, Koyuki might say something about how that was a very familiar experience to her own. How she met Moriko and saw how broken she was only to realize that the woman she'd been seeking, the villain who betrayed her truest trust, was just as destroyed over it as she had been. Moriko was the one who made the choice, and Moriko was still one who suffered. Koyuki held so much regret and she hadn't even been the one who did wrong, or made a mistake, she was simply a victim of events.

However, Koyuki would not say these things, because Koyuki did not trust easily. Yurei was a sweet girl, and she may never betray a trust she was given, but Koyuki couldn't be sure and considering their time knowing one another would not last she allowed herself this moment to falter and keep her heart to herself.

Maybe it would have been better had she done differently? Live is rarely that easy, unfortunately.

"I do not mind, Yurei-san. I am glad to hear you ramble as much as you like," she offers, that bit of rest evident in her tone.

"Oh that's good, I usually stick to being more mysterious. But sometimes it feels good to just...I dunno, say what you've been thinking? Or what you think you've been thinking at least. I'm gearing up for when I'm older and expected to just launch into long-winded stories of my life."

She gets to the end of her cone with a sigh, crunching the last of it with the expression of a pet dog who thinks food might never come again.
"But that means you're ready to hear the story about the time Sakura and I tried Moto food. So, brace yourself, this is gonna get wild."

Even Koyuki couldn't hold back a soft chuckle on that note, nodding she settles in for the story with an appeased, "I am ready for it, Yurei-san. Lay it on me."

And that was it, that was the onset of a rather pleasant little evening spent before Koyuki would be called in to assist at her embassy. For a little while, Koyuki forgot her own troubles by getting mixed in with learn all about Yurei's adventures. As many as she would share, or as much as time would allow. Cause she could always be an ear, that much she could bear.
