Festival of Fire
Festival of Fire is a traditional event held annually on World of Dreams on 14th day of Tiger to celebrate both Kanna and Akino, both whom were raised to the status of Fortune on that day, albeit some hundred and twenty years apart. What originally began as a normal fireworks festival as since turned into a 'rocket war' where the devout flog to the temples, shooting fireworks across the Tokagure Garden, with the objective of hitting the bell of the temple on the other side. The fireworks used are of the traditional type, wooden sticks loaded with a propellant mixture containing gunpowder and chemicals that will cause the rocket to explode in dizzying flash of light.
The two temples, Shrine to Kanna and Temple of Akino sit on two low hilltops about third of a mile away from each other. Direct hits on each bell are supposedly counted on the next day to determine the winner, but each group invariably claims victory over the other. The result of this apparent disagreement is that both groups agree to settle the score next year, and the rivalry is thus perpetuated. The temples themselves and the nearby buildings have to be extensively boarded up and protected with plasteel sheets and mesh for the occasion. Locals living near the temples regularly express their dismay at the explosive nature of the custom but as the event brings in a lot of business to the eateries and hotels near by, the local authorities turn a blind eye to the few stray rockets that inevitably happen every year. The origin of this event is unclear, but local tradition holds that it goes back to 30th century. According to local lore the Festival began as a harmless fireworks festival, but that one year small group of believers fired a large rocket from Shrine to Kanna, accidentally hitting the bell at Temple of Akino and this mistake is believed to have caused the first 'rocket war'. While the devout are busy shooting rockets at each other, the business owners of the district arrange simultaneous show, their fireworks strictly aimed towards the skies. Many locations open their rooftops for their patrons so that they might watch the spectacle without having to risk getting struck by an errant rocket.

Dai found a nice, conspicuous, spot to enjoy the show. Nowhere that would offend his betters but one where he would definitely be seen.

Tsuyo was definitely not going to miss watching the explosive show. Though unlike most, she's watching the early part of each missle's trajectory more than the colorful end...and mumbling about too low or high for most.
"ooo, that one's going to overshoot by a lot. Loading up extra powder doesn't help your aim, kids," she says to nobody in particular as a dramatic roket shoots overhead to explode in a riot of sparkling silver-blue far over the other temple. "Ooodles" written across her box of dinner proclaims the shop she bought it from, clearly visible as she scoops and slurps noodles from it.

The ncie thing about the festival of fire was that the display was free for all to enjoy. Not a great time to try to sleep in a monk's cell, but the display was worth the lost sleep.
She overheard the Firefly's comment, and added her own musing to the empty air.
"A powerful blow that cannot connect is a powerless blow. At least it went high rather than exploding upon the launch pad, may Osano-Wo watch over us." she said.

A fireworks display was something Sumiko very much wanted to watch....
From somewhere she could see. So she found a place on the edges, far enough away that she wasn't being blocked by the taller people (read: pretty much everyone) but still close enough to be approached. She had picked out a pretty kimono for the festival as well. She knew Senshuken would be around soon, but had managed to arrive slightly earlier so she could get used to the location.

Senshuken has arrived but she's unable to see Sumiko so she wanders around aimlessly for a while. The young courtier is dressed in a short black pleated skirt, a red crop top, a black biker's jacket with a red scorpion embroidered on her back and her brand new black and red checked sneakers. She really needed a new pair of sneakers! Her backpack matches her shoes. Of course.
She's as always eager to talk with people!

Getting called by some team mates, the now very much in vogue Kaiu Setsu appears for the war very well
equipped. Watch out not to get hit by his fireworks if you pass by.

So many ronin and minor clanners about. Tenma fanned herself with one hand as she adjusted her yukata with the other; She never had gotten used to wearing these things, and it didn't help she'd had this one for a while... but she just hadn't found the time to go out and get fitted for a new one lately.

Big pretty bangs in the sky?? Of course Hinata was here. The past few days he'd flirted with cross dressing. Apparently today was the day he just went for it. His dress was frilled very like the one worn by Kakita Ruri not long ago, with lots of frills, lace and bows. The deep slash in the skirt to his left shows that Absolute Territory has been obeyed and that, for once, he's gone for plain blue stockings rather than his favoured stripy ones. The boots are blue silk and as frilled and lacy as the rest of his outfit. His hair braided into a tail that hangs over one shoulder.
He has a pair of yakitori sticks in one hand, and what looks like a box of takoyaki in the other. Somewhere in Crane space, Usagi Drop's! nutritional advisor is getting shivers up her spine.
"Bayushi-sannnnnnn!!! Hi!"

Is that... cutish? Senshuken only knows one person that speaks cutish and looking towards Hinata she barely avoids rubbing her eyes. The Asahina looks absolutely "Stunning!" There she says it. "Asahina Hinata san? Is that really you?" She offers a quick bow to get this out of the middle. "Omk! You look gorgeous!" She adds and grins broadly. What a cute, tiny cookie! Ready to be bitten!

"Oh thank you!!! Naz-kun always says I go too far when I dress up like this, but I just love the frills and bows!"
A particularly loud firework exploded above them and Hinata flinched before looking up at the resultant bloom of sparkly colours.
"Wooooooowwww!!!"

Yuji was dressed in the traditional kimono, well fitted for him, with fine materials, though it was only in the clan colors. There was subtle detailing of spiderwebs patterned throughout, in slightly different shades of the matching colors beneath, that one would see upon closer inspection. His fan was flicksd open, as he stood and watched up into the sky, enjoying the fireworks.

Sakura arrived in a fashionable Yukata, cherry pink with motifs of fireflies on it. She spotted a familiar figure, and approached, a personable bow in greeting. "Dai-san, greetings. Have you been well?"

The Bayushi looks at the fireworks and then back at the Crane. "Oh! You shouldn't believe him, you look... yummie. Who is Naz kun if I may ask?"

"Naz-kun? Oh sorry, Kakita Nazuna, lead singer of my idol group. Writes most of our songs as well. He's so talented and pretty."
Hinata bounced on the spot and tried some of his yakitori while waiting for the next big badaboom in the sky.

Less concerned about the fashionability of her wear, and more about how it accentuated her form, her husband was right behind, enjoying both views in their own right, and the combination of them. The fire reflexes in her fire hair was something to behold!
He'd break out with a song but his somehow didn't want to improve on a moment that was already quite ideal.

Tenma leaned back a little near him, not exactly touching but able to feel his presence nearby, "I never liked fireworks as a kid. I don't think I ever told you that, you know."
Her voice was whimsical, thoughtful.

Tourists had no idea that the best spot to watch the show was the small hill that Ono, Tsuko and Jun were chilling. Ono on the other hand had no idea that Jun's streaming would inform everyone of their position. He did notice that there were more people around.
He shrugged, lit up a prayer stick for each of the fortunes honored tonight, and then his pipe. Idly he looked up and exhaled the smoke.

Wearing a lovely kimono she'd brought just for the occasion and a splash of green nail polish as a little homage to her Noburu, Yamako scanned the skies for errant fireworks and a good viewing place for one as small as her.
She wandered, keeping her eyes and ears open.

"Prettier than you?" She chuckles. "I remember him now and I highly doubt that. You have an exceptional pesonal style and so much energy that you just made my heart skip a beat." She playfully brings her hands over her heart. "Oh! It did it again!"
