[Bayushi Mineichi]

"Ancestors do watch over us." Mineichi noted, sounding somewhat displeased of the fact. One of the figures in the shadows had flipped open his communicator, the faint blue light illuminating his veiled face. The other figure was staring at the ceiling, shuffling where he or she stood - the shadows still hiding much of their body. "That's the spirit, Yoritomo-san." he added with a chuckle, lifting his bokken between the two women as an umpire might do, only dropping it when Koyuki was ready.

[Kuni Koyuki]

Stepping up to the middle, Koyuki bows in turn. There was less mirth on her lip but a presence of excitement in her eye as she focuses in. Raising the bokken to show her readiness for the match she settles into posture.

[Yoritomo Seika]

"Yeah, though my grandmama is very much alive," Seika agrees with a rueful grin. "Watching over us through the net, wondering why we don't write enough." She raises her bokken into a ready position.

When the Scorpion magistrate signals the start, she shifts on the balls of her feet, an air of concentration descending over her. Perhaps surprisingly, she looks like she's taking the spar seriously, even though she can tell she'll have to be lucky to land a hit.

Koyuki stands resolute, holding herself steady. Watching Seika with an intensity to her focus. "Give her a show, Yoritomo-sama," she says, no smirk rising to her lip but the tone reflects it all the same.

[Bayushi Mineichi]

"Fair enough." Mineichi smirked, his eyes focusing on Seika for a moment. "Now you'll have one more tale to tell her, when you next talk." He looked a little surprised when she sought her center, the magistrate having expected the Mantis go for the throat, so to speak. Glancing at the Kuni, Mineichi saw her taking a rather passive stance. "Playing with your food, Kuni-san?" he asked loud enough for the two shadows to giggle in unison.

[Yoritomo Seika]

Seika is a bit surprised herself when the anticipated bonk doesn't arrive while she's taking her time seeking an opening. Koyuki's guard is alarmingly good, though. At least as far as Seika can tell. Oh well, nothing for it....

..."Hyah!" With a quick shift of balance, she lunges in recklessly, slicing with her wooden wakizashi!

Koyuki can roll the 2k1 (keep low) damage if she likes, or we can handwave it.

"Hah, good hit, Yoritomo-san." There was no mockery in his voice, Mineichi focusing his attention on Koyuki. "See, Kuni-san. That's why you don't play with your food, not even when sparring." This time his tone had a hint of ire in it, the lord magistrate having expected the Crab to show her form as well. Primitive as the Yoritomo's technique was, none could dispute the results, Koyuki likely having a bruise on her skin as a reminder the following day. "C'mon, Kuni-san. Show me your stance. Your real stance."

[Kuni Koyuki]

Feeling the impact of the wooden 'blade' Koyuki betrays herself with a slight smile, one that wipes away easy enough as she steps back to reset. Giving Seika a nod in the intervening moments, "Well struck, Yoritomo-sama," glancing quickly over her shoulder to Mineichi. She maintained her composure despite the magistrates words. Focusing fully upon her opponent, gauging her defenses, and lunging in for the strike with effect.

Running her faux blade down the top of Seika's own she put the woman out of position, seizing the momentum and moving forward into her space she gave a twist and popping maneuver to yank the bokken free of Seika's hand.

Seika's bokken thumps to the ground, while its wielder lets out a muffled squeak, falling back a step and shaking out her slightly numb sword hand. "Okay! You got me, Kuni-san. Good one."

Her eyes flick to the dropped bokken lying forlornly on the dojo matting. "We good? Or do you want to go again?"

[Kuni Koyuki]

Watching the bokken bounce away she let out a subtle exhale filled with tension, eyes closed she allows a brief smirk to rise. Settling her foot back into a standard stand, Koyuki raises her bokken into her hand and rests it upon the open palm of the other. Turning the other hand over to match she offers it up to Seika, bowing slightly as expected with the gesture, "I can go again, Yoritomo-sama. Should it please Bayushi Mineichi-sama. If you would accept?"

[Bayushi Mineichi]

"Mhmhm." the magistrate nodded approvingly, his eyes tracing the bokken as it clattered on the floor. "Now that was a fierce blow - as one might expect from one of the Crab." He walked to the forlorn weapon, slowly picking it up. "Pray tell me Kuni-san, what did you want to toy with her?" Mineichi asked even as he handed the wooden weapon back to Seika. "No, I think it's rather clear that Yoritomo-san is no match for Kuni-san." He glanced at the Mantis to see if she would protest. "I think you should face someone one your level next." Tugging his own bokken free, the lord magistrate turned to face Koyuki, spinning the wooden blade in his arms until he found his stance, his arms crossed and held high, the tip of his blade pointing at the Crab. "Come!"

[Kuni Koyuki]

With Seika's blade returned by the lord magistrate, Koyuki corrected herself. Gripping and swinging the bokken out to the side she retook her stance. Turning to face Mineichi in turn, "I wished to see Yoritomo-sama's potential, and she did not disappoint," she admitted freely. Shifting herself to be more reserved but far more open than before. An aggressive stance, one she suspected would please. Meeting Mineichi's eyes she would nod, and then begin.

As she was bid, Koyuki surged forward. With undefined grace she kept herself open to shift, and strike, a brief parrying foray opening a hole in Mineichi's defense and striking true.

Mineichi tried to parry, but he was a little bit too slow, the bokken catching his side with a solid, meaty thud that left him grimacing. "Well done." he replied, shaking his head softly even as he circled around her. "First to three, perhaps?" Leaving Koyuki little time to answer, he brought his blade down aiming at her midriff, scoring hit just as she had. "Ha!"

Taking the hit, she fell onto her backfoot. A softened grunt with the hit. Flipping some hair around with a shift of her head to get it out of view, and focus on Mineichi. Nodding, "You give me the benefit Bayushi-sama, if I can keep up," she says with no shame, and a pride in her tone mixed with the energy of the excitement. Taking her best, she kept her defenses raised as she paces around Mineichi, one step, two, three..

A strike, in for the center, a block and parry causing a flurry of motion and energy following smoothly into a swing coming from outside landing upon his left shoulder.

Seika shoulders the wooden wakizashi and steps well out of the way of the action. "Right, don't mind me, then," she mutters. For all that no one has ever expected her to learn the sword and her lack of skill with one has never bothered her self-image... it's still a bit awkward hearing herself dismissed as 'no match for so-and-so' while she's standing right there.

While Koyuki and Mineichi begin their bout, she unwraps a stick of Watanabe Confections Yuzu Burst! chewing gum and pops it into her mouth, taking a few moments to eye the two shadowy giggling figures curiously. They seem to be with Mineichi--Yoriki? Cheering squad?

"Oof!" she exclaims sympathetically when Koyuki lands her second hit on the magistrate. It looks like a good one.

"Not bad." Mineichi smirked as he felt her bokken touch his shoulder, taking half a step back to gauge his options. Figuring that the Kuni was ahead and that he needed to even the odds somehow, the magistrate brought his blade down in a low arc, aiming at Koyuki's knee. She was too fast however, the witch hunter able to turn away from his blow before it cut connect, the bokken cutting through air, leaving him rather exposed. "Gah..." Even if the mempo muffled his voice, his frustration was rather evident.

Spying Seika to pop a bubblegum into her mouth, one of the figures in the shadow giggled now louder, his or her colleague having dropped their communicator to observe the match between Koyuki and his ward, more curious about the stranger than really concerned about Mineichi's safety. While one could kill with a bokken, it took a fair bit of time and effort. Besides, the Crab were considered Scorpion allies - unlike the Mantis that Mineichi had so casually dismissed.

[Kuni Koyuki]

"Thank you," she said, voice strained through the motion of dodging his attack. Keeping out of the reach of the low arc of his blade. Exposed as he might have been, he was afforded the opportunity to shore up those defenses as Koyuki stole the opportunity to place herself within her opponents zone. From there she moved to harry him, in a similar spirit she moved for his grounded support but found herself wanting as the tip of the bokken barely brushed the cloth flowing over his leg. A grimace turned into a grunt as she recognized the precarious position she allowed herself to be caught within.

Mineichi's eyes widened as he saw what Koyuki was trying, deftly pulling his foot back before lunging back in, his bokken pushing hers aside before the wood stuck the back of her knee, the Scorpion lord following the blow as he tried to dance out of harm's way.

A solid connection, stuck in good, Koyuki's foward momentum in the bout proved to be her downfall as her feet refused to find enough purchase on the mat to stay upright. Rush of the tilt, a bitten swear muttered under her breath and the Kuni fell victim to gravity with the aid of a bokken. Back crashing down into the ground a groan surfaced first, followed by a low throaty chuckle.

[Bayushi Mineichi]

Weighing his bokken, Mineichi waited to see if Koyuki would stand up, keeping his 'blade' between the two even as he glanced at Seika, frowning as he saw her chewing bubblegum. While the lord magistrate didn't strictly care about customs, esteemed as his person was, seeing the Mantis disregard the proper etiquette brought a frown on his features, a soft sigh escaping his lips. Having been exposed to clan propaganda, Seika somehow managed to represent everything there was wrong with the morally questionable Yoritomo. Still, he knew the city hid many a deviant, Mineichi figuring to himself that Seika would likely end fitting well in. What was lack of manners, when Shadowed Mirror and the New Painted City were a thing.

"Do you yield?" he asked Koyuki, turning his attention to her, ready to 'bonk' her once more should she try to stand up.
