Discussin' Dai Q&A

Dai was pretty much an open book so there's no great secrets to reveal but feel free to ask any questions you might have.

So how did Dai end up as a ronin?

He's born ronin. A father he never knew was 'considerate' enough to send two swords to his mother for him. For the longest time he pretty much considered that a malicious act. If he had just been heimin life would have still sucked but it would have been easier. Instead he had the burdens of a samurai without the benefits. He was pretty bitter about that at the start of the game though now, at the end, he might just believe in destiny.

Do you plan on buying the rank of Luck/Great Destiny/Chosen by the Oracles Dai clearly has even if he hasn't realized yet?

What do you think will be Dai's future? He is rich, he is de facto the sought after specialist of the Desolation and of gaki in general... Many possible hooks.

I doubt Dai will reprise unless there's a game set on WoD in the future. If he did pop again and I had the XP buying Great Destiny might be tempting.

Being rich means he doesn't have to do distasteful or dangerous jobs just to survive. Of course his newfound cause is no less dangerous. He's going to be going back to recover any more samples from Soshi Biotech that might be able to be used to bring back species that were lost. After that he's going to be gathering up all the glimmerstone he can find, not for sale or use, but to keep it and the souls within safe until a way is found to free them.

If he had won the ronin contest he would have been actively recruiting likeminded souls to the cause but for now I guess he's still a solo artist.

Hello! Thank you for joining us for Shadow War and playing! How did you find the ronin metagame? Was there a reason he asked for a high fee from Sumie? I suppose he was right to suspect that there could be potential danger but unfortunately, Sumie just didn't have 25 Koku sitting around. I suppose she could have just considered making a...friend...

...or whatever.

Daaaaai!

I liked the brief interactions the pair had as someone who knew each other briefly.

I really liked Dai's drive, and whole interaction with the Desolation. Would you like to have had more Desolation exploration?

Edit: Also kinda sad Dai and Sakura didn't discus their samurai parentage, as that could have ended up as an interesting conversation.

Yeah it was unfortunate that shot that down it would have been fun, well as a player - probably not for Dai, to have gone on that outing with her. From his perspective - it's at least ten koku just to get a pass for someone who's not a ronin nor a Scorpion. Add to that the danger factor to him, especially when it comes to dragging an unknown edgelord with him who he isn't entirely certain wouldn't try to get him killed so she could get footage of it, and the price tag ended up pretty hefty.

Yeah I definitely enjoyed them interacting and us having established a past friendship got Dai involved in Thim's plot he might have otherwise missed out on so that was wonderful since it ended up helping define Dai a lot more.

I definitely would have loved more Desolation exploration but it just came down to a matter of time and resource management. For instance I would have loved to have him go and try to clean up the scraps outside of the blown facility from the Eriko event. It made the rumors and it would make sense as a scavenger... but then I had combat, event, and heist all that next day so I just had to write it off.

Yeah, when the Desolation came up, I figured it was a no brainer to get Dai involved!

And as I mentioned, Sakura is quite happy to give Dai steady jobs from time to time to keep him afloat!

I really enjoyed Dai's Soft-hearted nature. I didn't expect that to come up, but I think it was really defining for him :)

Yeah I had expected Soft-hearted to be much more of a background disadvantage then it ended up being. It was my justification, during character creation, as to why the character was willing to dive into Desolation again and again when it would be easier to just mug people and rob places to survive. I knew as a player I wanted to interact with that playground of horrors the GMs had set up but having a reason for the character to do so was important too.

Dai was pretty interesting to read throughout the game, especially his solo-venture into the Desolation early on!

A real shame he didn't want to join the Spider. They have some spiritually active worlds he could've gone exploring instead. xD I trust he was satisfied working with the Spider, at least the second go around when Yakumo was in charge of payment?

Heh, definitely.
