Memorable Moments

I've wanted to post more meaty character scenes in here, and this one certainly fits the bill:

There's a click, deafening in the silence as Yūrei cocks her weapon. How dare she?! HOW DARE SHE?! Her breaths come short and angry. It would be so easy, she could avenge her parents here and now.

But avenge...what? The punishment of two traitors? A magistrate simply doing her job? Would killing Yua here make what she'd said any less true? Would her parents' souls suffer any less agony if burdened with another evil?

With a quiet sigh she lowers her weapon slightly.

"I understand, thank you for the insight."
She stands, keeping her gun ready and slowly walking to the door
"Sounds like you were simply fulfilling your own duties, doing what was necessary."
She pauses at the threshold, throwing a last question over her shoulder
"Did it ever keep you up at night? All those kids experimented on? All the death? The suffering? What you had to do?"

This is the highlight of the the thread, but with great stuff coming from both player and GM. Damn good writing, people!

A generally good and interesting post, plus some vital PLOT!

"Thanks, o spirit of the earth." Seika claps her hands together and bows her head as the scraggly spirit-ling returns to quiescence.

The right space... a gray realm... "This stuff is above my pay grade," Seika mutters nervously to herself.

This isn't strictly true, of course. Yoritomo no Watanabe Seika almost certainly draws a bigger stipend for her service than the average expert in spirits and magical objects. But outside her expertise? That, definitely.

Seika pops a piece of Acid Apple gum out of the open packet lying on the table next to her densai and chews on it for a bit, thinking intently.

Well, one thing I can do, anyway-- She taps her communicator, pulls up the code belonging to the ronin Dai, and inputs a series of asynchronous text messages.

The Kuni tossed up her hands in the air as she rolled her eyes. "Ugghhh! Whatever. I'm done with hanging around here anyway. I thought this place would have like-people but it looks like it's just a lame-o gathering of people just looking to dress up for an 'enchanted evening', 'erotic evening' or whatever classy bullshit society is into. I'm not getting kicked out, I'm showing myself out! I've got really important things to do in real life anyway..."

She would make her exit and leave the party without any more fuss...

A great tense scene here. This post is where it ramps up, and the next few are great too!

You really never were worth anything to her were you?

Eyes narrowing, nails curling into her palms so tightly into little fists she was almost drawing blood. Lip twitching into her scowl, only accentuated by the paint she wore, "None of us should have," her words come sharp, half-hissing with that boiling rage barely contained with a subconscious effort at decorum. "Tats killed it with his dying breath and you didn't even stop to check the bodies. Rikako, Toma, me.. did no one else ever mean anything to you?" her heart breaks all over again on that word, me. "I loved you."

"I was still alive, and you didn't even check," she says, more defeated then angry, despair coloring her voice. "Three years I survived on that planet. First two I convinced myself you'd died too. I saw the shuttle was gone and yet- I couldn't think to believe it. You were gone. I would have done anything for you. You didn't even check."

Didn't even care that much.

"You were my everything."

Subject: [Day 9 - Late Night] Space In Between (Closed)

As Rei chased after his lost wife, the already-dark alleyway seemed to dim the further he made his way inside. It almost seemed like he was plucked out of reality, lost in time and space, on some plane where it was only his wife and him...

There was something else on the ground as Rei walked on. A hint of it at first and more of it further in. Some sort of dark glinting in the faint light. Blood?


Usagi Yuria

Yuria would finally turn at the voice calling out to her. There was a tired and weary smile from her at first, like someone who had just returned from an odyssey (or from being missing for 2 years). However, her expression soon turned to fear, the sinking dread was very clear in her eyes. "Rei, no!"

Her strength would give out and she collapsed to the ground.

I wanna know what happens! But also this might be on the scary side for me...

Kotone would direct her bright smile at Sakura and gesture her to the dividing wall behind the desk. "Please follow me and I'll take you inside. Would you like a drink? Does anyone else know you're here at the moment?"

That is rarely a question you want to be asked when you're alone with the Scorpion.

For the occasion Reki had her cat ears. Cat ears were fun. Making fun of a long dead enemy was fun. The Lioness's math said the inclusion of the cat ears had doubled her fun.

It did however ruin her stoic image.

"Kitsu-san, Susumu-sama, Scorpion-san." She smiled to each in turn. The robotic ears flicked and whirred on her head in a rough approximation of 'cautious amusement'. Or at least how the Scorpion programmers thought a cautiously amused cat's ears moved which in actual cat body language would probably have gotten Reki mauled.

Catology was an inexact science.

I just appreciate Kuni Emi's flower hobby and Eriko's willingness to offer an impromptu lecture before being rudely interrupted by an explosion.

"Okay...that's some of them gone," she said after the vehicle left. "That might leave us with a little less to deal with. From the looks of it, they're still going through the excavation, so they might not exactly be anywhere close. Even if they dig the ground entirely, from my notes, there should still be a reinforced entrance to the vault. The codes have been lost in time but thankfully it's just a puzzle we have to figure out."

Eriko took out the tsuba she shows the other night, which showed a Crab surrounded by a circular design of flowers. "So, Kuni Emi's hobby was hanakotoba. We see the prominent designs of bluebell, camelia, hibiscus, lavender, and lotus in place of the elements. There's a certain order that these need to be keyed in and it's likely based on each step of her life. Hibiscus might be the first one to start because it represents her early childhood while growing up at Sunda Mizu Mura, her mother wasn't a born Crab but instead..."

KAA-BOOOOM

The ground suddenly shook as there was a large explosion rocked the area from the direction of the excavation. Eriko ducked as a gust of debris flew by their direction, followed by a plumb of dust emerging from the temple ruins.

She quickly recovered and blinked at what just happened. "...Right, should have just expected the True Scions to not be subtle about getting through."

Goodbye, Gorou. He died as he lived. Being an asshole.

Eriko cast a quick glance to see Reki quickly attended by Rei, giving a few nods as she moves from her position and quickly meets Hide at the truck where she skewered the bastard right to his new sweet ride. Her gaze went to look out for potential threats, it seemed like a few of the workers and goons were quickly making their selves scarce after the fighting started. She strolled over with her gun trained right at Gorou...


Gorou

"...Wait!" He coughed with a few laboured breaths with a hand out. "You want the data core?! ...I got it right, here!"

Gorou quickly went to his side to get a hold of something that clearly wasn't anything of the sort, only prompting Eriko to fire a few quick shots into his chest to finish him before he could do anything funny with it.

"Well, I guess he was going to be an asshole to the very end..." Eriko sighed as she lowered her gun.

"I love it when a plan comes together." Kiyoshi grinned. "Good work, everyone."

The Detective chattered excitedly and scampered outside.

[Dai]

The Imperial adjunct called the duelists to ground she had deemed most suitable, indicating them both a location where they should stand, the young woman waving her fan rather vigorously as she took a stock of the situation.


"Good morning, Daigotsu-san." Manatsu called out to her opponent, offering him a low bow.


"Fuckface." her opponent replied, Goro scratching his neck as he observed his opponent, his 'free' hand resting on the hilt of his blade. Where Manatsu seemed eager and energetic, Goro seemed almost lethargic. Yet anyone who caught glimpse of his eyes could sense his focus. Goro was a man prepared to kill - even if the duel was to be fought to the first blood only.

I shouldn't have laughed as hard as I did but, congrats, you got me.

I always feel it's slightly bad form to post my own threads in here, but I'm really entertained by the "innocents try space moonshine while the experienced Firefly try not to laugh" scene. (And Sakura's posts make less sense without Seika's...)

Sakura smiled. "Don't mind if I do minnasama." She poured a small glass and....shot it back straight.

"Oh hey, doesn't feel too stron-" her voice cracked as the fuel hit her.

"Wow." was her only response as her face locked up.

Seika eyes Sakura as her new friend takes the plunge. It's... not as informative as she might have expected; she really can't tell whether Sakura's reaction means she's better off starting small or tossing it all back.

She shrugs and takes a large sip.

"Hnngmhmhmm..." Seika emits some muffled, slightly squeaky sounds. Roll it around your palate--Uncle Toi's directive for sampling his favorite 110-proof cask-aged shochu, the most challenging acquired taste in Seika's drinking experience to date--was maybe not such great advice here, actually.

Sakura managed to swallow hte last bits. "It's....I believe that this can power spaceships." She left it at that, still coughing. She eyed Seika, wondering about her rection.

Still ignoring the warning signs Hinata looks at his drink. It's in a shot glass, therefore it is a shot. Therefore he drinks it like a shot.

" . . . . . . . . "

He looks like he's trying to speak, but no words are coming out. The cat ears had gone flat against his head.

[Boogiepop]

Hinata had been watching Nari the Kitsune, very much looking forward to what she was going to play tonight.

"Oh the Detective and Kiyoshi are going to be on!!!! Great this is . . . HEY . . .stupid screen, don't do this to me!!!!!!"

At first he tried to change the stream display quality . . . but he'd forgotten how to and ended up just pressing random buttons that didn't do anything. Next he tried to turn the terminal off and on again . . . but he only unplugged the screen . . . not the processor.

"Argh! What else can I do????"

The next defense was totally passive and only because the invaders were in the part of the server that Hinata kept his stuff in and were presented with an absolute mess of file structures and random folders that made no sense whatsoever. It didn't hold them up for long.

Finally Hinata gave in and went for help, to find the Embassy staff running all over the place, red lights flashing and an alarm shouting about 'SERVER BREACH!!!!!'

"Errr . . . no Nari-channnn stream tonight then?"

His emotion sensing cat ears drooped in disappointment.

I have to appreciate the underlining comedy that Hinata was not trying to stop a hacker but just trying to get his stream to work and watch a show.

"Yay, we finally got out. By the power of teamwork and all that..." Sumie would say dryly with little fanfare as she stepped out first after the door was open.

She walked out to the hallway where there were other groups waiting for their turn in the Enigma Room. While she wasn't keeping track of how long they were taking, her competitive nature got the better of her and she looked at the scoreboard of other teams. She gave a blink to see who preceded them by several minutes and groaned. "Ugggh! I can't believe the lame-o mainstream happy-happy popstar team beat us! They probably got a stupid sponsorship deal and were given the answers. That's it. Whatevs, this game was stupid anyway."

Giving a dismissive shake of her head, she just merely walked off to mend her pride.

Another good tense scene between enemies. A bit of humor, but also wonderfully dramatic:

Someone grabs her attention, and for that split second her mind goes through a frenzy of figuring out where she was, and what she was doing. With the eyes on her it was hard not to feel a little foolish but there was something more important to concern herself with. Breathing in deep, exhaling out slow she finds herself a calm. Taking the drink from the counter with a brief nod to the individual behind the counter before turning off toward the establishment.

"I met your wife. Bayushi Seki? She seems-" Koyuki goes to round the corner to the seating area but stops to let someone else pass. "-seems like a bit of a bitch honestly. Guess you have a type," she chuckles to herself, but it doesn't have any mirth. Almost flavorless sound of air.

"..."

A tense silence followed the comment and the chuckle from Koyuki. It almost seemed to have invoked nothing until there was the rattling of something across the table with some static of air as the communicator was picked up by the recipient.

"Yeah, she is one," Moriko would say on the other line, finally finding some common ground they could agree on, for once.

This thread has an entertaining survival-crafter game event, some interesting stuff playing out... and also, shots fired!

Nari-chan let out a very impressed gasp before giggling. "Ahhh...wooooow! Oh my Kami, he looks very cuuute in that shirt! That's great! Did you have lots of fun Detective-san? What can you tell us about the Sanctuary? I really need to go back there! I reeeeally want my own spine drake, one day!"

"One, two, three. Work, work, work! Yaa-yaaay! We're really making this happen!" Nari-chan cheered in a lyrical voice as put up more logs and materials in the structure they were making. The audience could see the walls being put up in the cabin gradually with an obvious pink outline to the areas that they were missing, which included the doors and roof. "We make a great team together, Kitsune-sama! Maybe they should drop us off in the middle of an island and have us build a cabin! We'd be so fast, whoooosh!"
